These files were included in hope that they might be of help to those
without access to the manga, and in need of extra background information
to run or play a Sazan Eyes campaign. They're synopses of the first series
of 3x3 Eyes OAVs (OAVs 1 to 4), and they mostly follow the manga,
although the plotline was a little rushed.

With the exeception of some of the headers, and few cosmetic formatting
changes, this file is original and untouched. No text was modified,
corrected or otherwise corrupted. That also means the character names'
spelling might not coincide with the RPG ones.

Now, to Mr. Alan Takahashi (takahash@nt.com) excellent synopses:

3x3 Eyes (or Sazan Eyes)

The Legend:
----------
There exist a race of demons called the Sanjiyan Unkara. Beautiful
in appearance and immortal, these monsters are to be avoided. For,
once in their lifetime, they consume a human soul. The body of those
consumed becomes one of the Undead (a zombie!), though they still
suffer the pains of their once-mortal body. You can recognize one
of these zombies, for the character 'Wu' (meaning nothingness or void)
  appears on their foreheads.

The figure of the Sanjiyan shown is a shadowly human-like figure with
three eyes...the third eye is in the middle of the forehead...

As with many legends, this one has some truth to it...

The characters:
--------------
Pai - She is a teenage girl with a extremely cheerful personality.
After being cleaned up, she also is extremely cute. Pai is
also over 300 years old, and is the last survivor of the race
known as 'Sanjiyan'. Her greatest desire is to give up her
immortality, and to become human. She doesn't remember why.
She doesn't speak Japanese too well, either...

'Sanjiyan' - When Pai's 3rd eye opens, this personality takes over.
This other personality is cold, arrogant, and has a great
deal of contempt for humans. This personality is also in
control of the great power that can be wielded by a Sanjiyan.
Unlike Pai, who likes Yakumo a great deal, 'Sanjiyan' views
Yakumo as a slave. Paradoxically, 'Sanjiyan' also wishes
	to become human.

Yakumo Fujii - The son of an eccentric archeologist who had a
'monster kick' (as Yakumo put it). His father spent most
of his life searching for the mystical Sanjiyan race, and
when he met Pai, promised to make her human. When his father
died, he pointed Pai in the direction of Yakumo and promised
that *he* would fulfil Pai's desire. Soon after meeting Pai,
Yakumo is fatally injured by Pai's friend: Takuhi. In order
to save his life, Pai makes Yakumo her 'Wu'...an indestructible
and immortal servant of a Sanjiyan. By doing this, Pai/Sanjiyan
merges Yakumo's soul with her own.

Of course, the flip side of being a 'Wu' is that Yakumo's life
is now bound with that of Pai's. If Pai dies (she is not
invulnerable and can be killed), then Yakumo dies. If Pai
becomes human, then Yakumo will return to being human. Also,
Yakumo still feels the pain of his body being battered, though
	he cannot die.

Li Ling-Ling - An editor at "Monster Buster" magazine of Hong Kong.
Her boss, who has gone missing, holds the key on how to use
the 'Ningen statue' or 'Statue of Humanity' to turn a Sanjiyan
to a human. She helps Pai and Yakumo on their quest, though
if there is any way to use Yakumo's immortality to make money,
well let's do it! :-) She also doesn't believe in monsters...

Mrs. Huang - Widow of a wealthy Hong Kong businessman who was killed
by demons. Comes to know Ling-Ling and the rest, and ultimately
decides to help them. Huang-san is actually a demon (called
Shunkai) who wants to retrieve the Ningen statue to give to the
great Kaiyan Wang...but for backup purposes, maybe Pai will
	grant her immortality instead...

Kaiyan Wang - Also known as "King Devil-Eyes". He is a Sanjiyan who
once wanted to take over the world. He ruthlessly killed
other Sanjiyan who got in his way. The other Sanjiyan couldn't
do much, since Kaiyan Wang had a powerful 'Wu'. Finally, the
surviving Sanjiyan banished Kaiyan Wang from this world in a
great battle. When it was over, only the young Pai was left.
This happened over 300 years ago.

Benares - The 'Wu' of Kaiyan Wang. He escaped from being banished
along with his master, and strives to reawaken him. He let
it be known that the first demon who retrieves the Ningen
statue intact, and offered it to Kaiyan Wang would receive
immortality (ha!). Benares is a mighty sorceror who controls
	great powers, unlike Yakumo...

                           Reincarnation Chapter
                    ===================================

[Prologue]

In the middle of a Tibetian mountain range, a man lies dying. He
tells the young girl standing over him that he'll keep the promise,
and hands her a letter. As we take a closer look at the girl, we
see that she has 3 eyes...

[Title: 3x3 Eyes]

A young girl dressed in rags that look Tibetian wanders down a busy
Tokyo street. Yakumo is riding on his scooter down the same street...
fast, 'cause he's late to work. Of course, Yakumo almost runs the
girl down. To make matters worse, a vagrant picks up the girl's
stick, and wanders away with it.

Over at 'Culture Shock', the gay bar that Yakumo works at as a
'waitress', the girl sits down and recovers as Yakumo tries to get
her to talk. However, the moment that the girl finds out his name,
she abruptly hugs him tightly and wails that it took her 4 years to
find him. Her name is Pai.

Pai reintroduces Yakumo to his father (she was carrying his skull
all this time!), and gives him a letter. In it, his father explains
that he found Pai, the last Sanjiyan survivor, and discovers that the
rest of the race chose to become human. Pai wants to, as well, and
finding that he couldn't go on, told Pai to look for his son...

Continuing with the letter, the elder Fujii tells Yakumo that the
secret for changing a Sanjiyan to a human can be found in Hong Kong...
...at a company called "Yougekisha" or "Monster Busters", Inc.
A statue called the "Ningen no zo" (Statue of Humanity) is the key
  for the transformation.

As Yakumo starts blustering that NO WAY was he going to Hong Kong
just to fulfil his father's promise, ESPECIALLY with that
filthy...he looks up, and finds an absolute vision standing in
front of him. Pai smiles shyly, and asks how she looks after one
of the other 'waitresses' cleaned her, dressed her up, and put
  makeup on her...

Well, Yakumo doesn't believe in monsters either...just as a TV
bulletin comes on about a man-bird that suddenly appeared, and was
causing havok. Pai had one comment: Takuhi! She explains that this
was her friend from inside her stick, and they had to go out and calm
him down. This isn't Yakumo's day, is it? :-)

Finding a giant man-faced bird wasn't so difficult, nor was it hard
to get him to follow them. What to do after that? Pai chose to
stand out on the street while Takuhi bore down on her - hoping that
Takuhi would recognize her. At the last moment, Yakumo pushed her
out of the way, and Takuhi's talon caught and pierced Yakumo's body.

As Yakumo was wondering if he was dying, Pai screamed and said "YOU
CAN'T DIE!!". But Yakumo's life was dribbling away and his death
seemed certain. Pai screamed Yakumo's name, and her 3rd eye opened,
giving Yakumo proof that Pai wasn't human. The 3rd eye projected
a beam on Yakumo and a blob emerged from his body to be absorbed
in the eye. Takuhi realized who this was, and obediently returned
  to his stick.

The police were out wondering what happened to the giant man-bird.
On a side street, Pai had cried herself to sleep on top of Yakumo's
body. At this point, all of the blood on the street returned to
Yakumo, and his injuries were healed. The 'Wu' character also
appeared on his forehead. Yakumo woke up wondering what happened,
and noticed the sleeping Pai. He decides to take that trip to
  Hong Kong after all...

While going to Hong Kong, Yakumo asks Pai why she wants to become
human. Pai loses her customary smile and pensively replies that
she doesn't remember. It HAS been 300 years since she made that
  decision, after all...

In Hong Kong, they find the "Yougekisha, Inc." offices. This
company publishes magazines on occult topics. As Yakumo and Pai
are coming up the stairs, a woman falls out of a window and lands
on Yakumo. Both are then promptly run over by a crowd of trenchcoated
figures. One of them is holding the Ningen statue. Ling-Ling gets
out and shouts to give it back. When machine-gun fire erupts,
  everyone hits the deck.

The trenchcoats flee in a car, and Yakumo gives chase for a short
distance. They get away and Yakumo comes to a halt. He's alerted
by Pai's warning, but it's too late...he's run over by a bus. Ling-Ling
and most of the rest of the gathering crowd look sick, and a frantic
Pai calls Yakumo's name. Yakumo answers and gets up uninjured.
The blathering Ling-Ling is interrupted by Pai who berates Yakumo
for letting the Ningen statue go...

Ling-Ling actually knows where the statue is, because of the transmitter
secreted inside. Yakumo and Pai come along for the ride.

They find a mansion in the hills, and sneak in. They find the statue
in a storeroom along with Huang-san, the mistress of the place. Cho,
the head servant finds them, and rushes to protect his mistress.

Ling-Ling does *not* make a good impression by trying to sell a
bunch of anti-monster charms to a group of monsters. Yes, this
  includes Pai and Yakumo...

Events escalate from there, and Yakumo, Pai and Ling-Ling take off
with the statue. As they run up the stairs, the trailing Yakumo is
hit by machine gun fire...and provides a target for almost a minute.
He collapses and falls at the feet of the henchman. When he gets up,
he startles everyone and it's a contest over who is more scared:
Yakumo at all of the guns or the mob at Yakumo's 'Wu' sign.
  (Yakumo's headband had fallen off).

Taking the opportunity, Yakumo runs back up the stairs after replacing
his headband and catches up with the two girls. He asks Ling-Ling if
she knew what 'Wu' was, and after some thought, Ling-Ling recounts the
legend of the Sanjiyan. At this, Yakumo turns to Pai and demands to
know if she really ate his soul. Of course, Pai has no idea what he's
talking about, but before anything else happens, they are discovered,
and a invisible 3-clawed demon blasts all three through a shuttered
  window.

Out on the roof, the demon deals briefly with Ling-Ling, then heads
for the Ningen statue...and Pai. Yakumo tries to intervene, but is
knocked away. The next moment does NOT result in the death of Pai
and Yakumo, and Yakumo looks up to find Pai bathed in light, and
holding off the demons. When Pai turns around to look at Yakumo,
he realizes in shock that her third eye had opened. When she spoke,
he also realizes that he is no longer talking to the kind, sweet and
cheerful girl that he had come to know. The 'Sanjiyan' had emerged
in all of her arrogance and glory.

The 'Sanjiyan' then proceeds to destroy the claw monsters one at a
  time while explaining to Yakumo that she did NOT consume his soul;
rather she merged his soul with her own. This means that they are
now totally linked with each other. Yakumo is now immortal. He
is also invulnerable to any injury...as Sanjiyan allows one of the
claw demons to rip away a good chunk of Yakumo's forearm. As he
watches, the crippling injury is magically healed.

With a final blast, Sanjiyan destroys the remaining monsters, and
Cho summons up a new monster, a giant worm-thing with tentacles.
Yakumo attempts to fight it, but is flung away. Sanjiyan has reverted
to Pai at this point, and she grabs the Ningen statue and tries to
draw the monster away from Yakumo. She says that it doesn't matter
what happens to Pai as long as Yakumo is safe. He calls her an idiot,
and says that of COURSE it matters what happens to her. In a
desperate move, he grabs a high voltage wire and electrocutes both
himself and the monster. Something explodes.

Holding the Ningen statue, a teary-eye Pai watches the smoke from the
explosion. Cho suddenly appears and grabs the statue from her, saying
that this is the property of Kaiyan Wang. A voice from the smoke asks
who Kaiyan Wang is, and Yakumo staggers from the smoke...sans headband.
Cho's eyes widen as he realizes that he's dealing with a Wu...and also
what that implies about another Sanjiyan.

Cho doesn't get much time, though, as a rifle shot rings out. It is
Huang-san who says that she is punishing him for the murder of her
husband. Calling her a traitor, Cho invokes a final spell. The
Ningen statue shoots into the air as a demonic hand appears to receive
it. Cho dies after consigning the statue to Darkness.

Later, Yakumo muses about their failure and decides he has to keep
looking. This makes Pai *very* happy, and she hugs him...to Yakumo's
embarrassment. For now, it is back to Japan for Pai and Yakumo.

[Epilog]

A monster is kneeling in from of a shrine dedicated to a Sanjiyan. She
apologizes to Kaiyan Wang for losing the Ningen statue. As she stands,
we see that it is actually Huang-san. Her final comment is: "...but
that boy with the 'Wu' mark...interesting..."

                             Yakumo's Chapter
                    ===================================

*** Yakumo's dachinko ***

Yakumo -- A normal 17 year old high school student with a particular
talent after he meets Pai. Fancies himself an invincible
      superhero.

Tatchan, Shigeru, Saru -- three other boys in the dachinko.

Natsuko -- The only girl in the dachinko. May have an ongoing
relationship with Yakumo, though that's never made clear
      in the OAV.

[Prologue]

We open with scenes showing Yakumo and Pai leaving Hong Kong and
returning to Japan. Yakumo's voice-over describes what has happened
to him and the events of the first OAV. As their plane arrives in
Japan, an observer watches. His clawed hand snaps the link fence
  that he was holding...

[Title: 3x3 Eyes]

The next morning at his apartment, Yakumo is making breakfast. When
he calls Pai, there is no answer. Opening the door to his bedroom,
he sees Pai looking at a picture of Yakumo and a group of other
students. [I think Pai got the bed...and pajamas while Yakumo got
the sofa...]. Yakumo explains that this is his 'dachinko' (a special
group of friends). Pai exclaims that she has a dachinko too...and
uncorks her staff. While Yakumo is getting ready to evacuate,
(a small) Takuhi emerges, and promptly begins eating Yakumo's
  breakfast...

Later, Yakumo is dressed in his uniform and is leaving for school.
Pai (still in Yakumo's pajamas) wants to come along, but Yakumo says
no. He tells her that he'll be back soon. As he leaves, he sees
Pai looking on from his balcony. He's too far away to realize that
it is Sanjiyan who is watching as he leaves...

At school, during another dull morning speech, Yakumo tries to tell
his dachinko about his adventures in Hong Kong, and the fact that
he was now an invincible hero. His friends, of course, think that
Yakumo is smoking something *really* good... :-) They end up making
too much noise, and are told to stand outside as punishment...

While standing, Natsuko, the final member of Yakumo's dachinko, comes
across the boys and asks about a trip that they were going to take.
One of the boys tells her that Yakumo had pawned his scooter for his
Hong Kong trip, and can't make it. After being sizzled by Natsuko's
  wrath, Yakumo begins apologizing profusely...

After school, they end up at a junkyard where they find a salvageble
scooter. While working on it, Yakumo sighs, and says how much he
misses the teamwork of friends. Natsuko says that he's being silly,
and Yakumo is sent off on yet another task to pick up some drinks.

On his way back, Yakumo is startled by a voice which asks what does
he think he's doing? He nervously crosses under a bridge, then some
6th sense causes him to look back. Sanjiyan is standing in the
middle of the bridge. Sanjiyan demands that Yakumo keep looking for
a way to make her human. Yakumo says that he already did everything
that he could. As the argument went on, Natsuko came up and was
shocked to see Pai with her third eye open. Sanjiyan signs off by
saying that Yakumo's normal life here will be gone in a week, then
  she disappears...

Unlike Natsuko, another figure was *very* interested in the Sanjiyan,
and caused the bridge to collapse. Yakumo pushed Natsuko to safety,
and was buried. The figure turns out to be a frog-like monster with
one eye. The monster probes Natsuko's forehead, and figures out that
she isn't a Sanjiyan. An injured Yakumo reappears and demands Natsuko.
In response, the monster demands the Sanjiyan and if not...he bites
Natsuko who screams. The monster then says that Yakumo doesn't
deserve to be a Wu, and blows his head off. Natsuko faints after this.

As the monster advances to finish Yakumo off (as if you could finish
off a Wu...nobody said this monster was very bright :-)), Pai's staff
plants itself in front of him. Sanjiyan had reappeared on the remains
of the bridge. The monster leaps up to the bridge and grabs Sanjiyan
saying that she looks delicious. At this, Sanjiyan promptly blew
  away the monster.

The rest of the dachinko arrived and assisted Natsuko. Then, they were
all treated to the sight of blood returning and wounds healing in the
way of the Wu. Yakumo says that he's really all right...and collapses...
Sanjiyan was nowhere to be seen...

That night, Yakumo returned to his apartment...to find it destroyed.
He goes next door to 'Mama' (the owner of 'Culture Shock') to find
that Pai had shown up on his doorstep and was inside. Looking over
the remains of his apartment, Yakumo muses whether Pai could have
done this. He tells Mama the entire truth about Pai and his own
transformation. Mama says that Pai is right: Yakumo cannot live as
a normal human as long as he wasn't one. Yakumo looks down at the
sleeping Pai and wonders what to do next...

The next day, Yakumo sneaks up on 2 of his buddies and scares them.
He then says 'hi' cheerfully. The buddies quickly excuse themselves.
Yakumo is a little puzzled by this behavior, then he spies Natsuko.
He taps her shoulder and says 'hi'. Natsuko screamed at the top of
her lungs, and retreated away from Yakumo being *very* scared. She
grabs her stuff, said 'I'm sorry' and runs away. Yakumo is getting
  worried by this point...

On the school grounds, Saru (one of Yakumo's dachinko) recounts what
happened at the bridge yesterday, and says that Yakumo is not Yakumo
anymore, but a 'bakemono' (an evil monster). Yakumo overhears, and
Saru says that he really didn't mean it, and begs for Yakumo's
  forgiveness and mercy...

Later, at the junkyard, Yakumo reflects on the day's events, and
decides that in order to become part of his dachinko again, he will
have to become human. At this point, Pai pops up and scares Yakumo
to death (well, almost...:-)). He then tears into Pai, blaming her
for the loss of his friends. Pai is taken aback, then cheerfully
decides to get Yakumo's dachinko back for him, and heads off for
  school...

At the school, a bewildered Pai looks around and finds Natsuko looking
back at her. Natsuko greets the confused Pai by asking: 'didn't she
have 3 eyes?' Yakumo is pushing his scooter to the school when he
runs across Pai and Natsuko talking about him. Natsuko says that
Yakumo is a very good friend of hers, and that she wants him back.
Sanjiyan emerges and frightens Natsuko. Bravely, Natsuko asks what
Yakumo is to the Sanjiyan. Sanjiyan considers that (and spies the
eavesdropping Yakumo), and replies that Yakumo is her slave.

Sanjiyan explains that her race is capable of great magics, but their
bodies aren't capable of holding up under the strain. They have to
sleep after any great spell is cast. That's why they need 'Wu' to
protect them while they are asleep.

Natsuko asks why Sanjiyan can't get someone stronger as her 'Wu' and
return Yakumo to human. Sanjiyan choses to let Pai handle
this tough question and the 3rd eye closes. Yakumo lets his presence
be known and wonders if Pai also thinks of him as a slave.

Natsuko speaks again, but her voice is that of the monster's. She
says that she is the real slave. She then slaps a charm on Pai's
forehead to keep the 3rd eye from opening, and sprouts tentacles
from Natsuko's body forming a tree. Natsuko feels the pain of
every tentacle. The 'tree' almost runs Yakumo over, and rams
into the main school building. The 'frog' form of the monster
also appears and beats up Yakumo.

Yakumo uses his scooter as a weapon, and runs into the monster. While
the monster is distracted, Yakumo runs over to Pai and grabs the
charm. Unfortunately, Yakumo forgot that the charm works against all
monsters, and that includes him. In desperation, Yakumo pulls the
charm off, and rams it into the monster's mouth with the open end
of Pai's staff. The monster expands and blows up, and Takuhi
emerges. When it is all over, Yakumo finds that Sanjiyan is awake.

The problem is, the Natsuko 'tree' is still there. The monster says
that he was in the girl all along, and his head emerges from Natsuko's
body. He demands that Yakumo give him immortality, or that he
convince the Sanjiyan to do it. He says that Yakumo has to hurry,
  or the girl will die.

Yakumo asks Sanjiyan to do it. Sanjiyan refuses, saying that the
girl's fate is of no concern to her, even when Yakumo gets on his
knees and begs. Yakumo has one last choice, and he uses it. Whipping
off his headband, he calls the monster and says that it can gain
immortality by taking over the body of a 'Wu'. The monster accepts
immediately and plunges many tentacles into Yakumo's body.

As Natsuko and the rest of the dachinko cry out Yakumo's name, Yakumo
silently says goodbye to the dachinko and to Pai. The monster's
head is ready to enter Yakumo when a staff is interposed. Sanjiyan
has decided to save Yakumo's neck at the last moment. Sanjiyan
chastizes Yakumo for not acting like a slave, and casts a spell which
blows the monster away (again), freeing Natsuko and Yakumo in the
  process.

Later on, Yakumo apologizes to his dachinko and says he has to leave.
Pai perks up when she recognizes the people from Yakumo's picture,
and asks if they are Yakumo's dachinko. She gets a sullen silence
in return. A voice from behind them says that it's so. Natsuko
affirms that they are indeed all part of the dachinko. At this,
the boys agree and apologize to Yakumo.

[epilog]

At the airport, Yakumo is sent off by his dachinko (although a comment
like 'Hurry up and become human!' is not exactly normal :-)), and he
wonders about the Sanjiyan. However, there is one thing that is not
  in doubt: he likes Pai.

                    ===================================

*** Pai's dachinko ***

Pai - A cheerful, if naive (apparently young) girl. After 300 years
of isolation, she is slowing learning what the human world is
like. Certain things don't make sense to her yet, like the human
trait of self-sacrifice to save another...

Yakumo - Pai's Wu. Bound to protect Pai by the fact that their lives
are intimately connected. His main goal is to find the Ningen
statue (Statue of Humanity) to make Pai human. One senses, though,
that he would stay with Pai, even without that connection...

Li Ling-Ling - Assistant Editor working for "Monster Buster, Inc."

Mrs. Huang - Rich widow of one of Hong Kong's wealthiest businessmen.
She wants Pai for her own reasons...

Steve Long - An exorcist by trade, he gets involved with our group
      by acquiring the Ningen statue...

Mei-Shin Long - Younger sister of Steve Long.

Takuhi - This giant man-faced bird once killed Yakumo. Now, they're
the best of friends. (Well not really, but it *sounded* good,
      didn't it? :-))

[Prologue #1]

A dark forbidding figure stands before a massive shrine to a
  Sanjiyan.

[Prologue #2]

Steve Long finishes an exorcism, and retires to a back room where
Ling-Ling is waiting for him. She wants to buy the Ningen statue
from him. She knows that Steve has it, 'cause her transmitter says
so. Going into a storeroom, they find that someone else wants the
  Ningen statue as well...

Mei-Shin is startled by an explosion in the next room, and rushes in
to find everything in ruins, and a massive hole in the wall...

A giant insect-like figure is flying though the night...

[Title: 3x3 Eyes]

A cloaked figure moves through the streets of Hong Kong. At "Monster
Buster Inc.", Pai and Yakumo are idly wondering where Ling-Ling was.
The cloaked figure bursts in and demands Ling-Ling. Yakumo tries to
protect Pai, and does a miserable job of it. The cloaked figure
reveals herself to be Mei-Shin. Holding Yakumo hostage, and showing
a piece of the Ningen statue, Mei-Shin offers a trade -- the piece
  for her brother.

At this point, lots of masked figures break in and take the Ningen
statue head, despite valiant efforts from Mei-Shin (Yakumo was, again,
useless :-)). They get away, but Pai has Takuhi follow them in his
small form. Yakumo complements her on her genius, and the delighted
Pai asks for him to praise her again. They then look after the
  unconscious Mei-Shin.

Takuhi follows the figures to a hotel, then up to the 32rd floor. Flying
around, he spots a bound man who could be Steve Long. When Pai
relates this information, Mei-Shin storms off to the hotel and
(wo)man-handles the hapless clerk, while Pai and Yakumo try to hold
her back. The scene is interrupted by a hotel official who ushers
them into an elevator, and asks them to keep the 32nd floor a secret
(the hotel is suppose to have only 30 floors).

After passing the 30th floor, the trio find themselves surrounded by
the masked figures as the elevator floor bulges up and a large
insect-like monster appears in front of them. As the monster is
getting ready to dispatch the trio, the elevator doors are ripped
open by Takuhi, and the trio escapes.

The monster goes after them, and attacks the trailing member of the
trio...Pai. Takuhi blocks the monster's approach, and is killed by
the monster, much to Pai's horror. The force of the blast throws
Mei-Shin against a wall, Pai over by the elevator where she's taken
by some more of the masked figures, and Yakumo out the window.

Yakumo climbs up the outside wall back to the 32th floor, but finds
it empty. [Note: Yakumo is afraid of heights.] Doing some exploring,
he finds a shrine which appears to be dedicated to a Sanjiyan.
Wondering who this new 3-eyes was, he gets an answer from behind:
"It's Kaiyan Wang". Yakumo has found Steve Long...

A ceremony begins, and an altar rises in front of the Sanjiyan statue.
On the altar is the monster, the now-complete Ningen statue, and
a sacrifice - Mei-Shin. As the monster terrorizes Mei-Shin, an axe
appears from nowhere, and slices off the monster's tongue. Yakumo
and Steve have appeared to rescue Mei-Shin and stop the ceremony.
The monster retaliates by knocking both Yakumo and Steve across the
  room.

From the cloud of dust, Yakumo reveals that he is not out of it yet,
and worse, he has the Ningen statue. He bluffs his way out by saying
that he'll destroy the Ningen statue if the monster doesn't back
off. The monster agrees. While the masked figures are discarding
their weapons, Yakumo asks for the humanification secret of the
statue, and the whereabouts of Kaiyan Wang, but the monster doesn't
  know either.

The monster is called Ryouko, and tells Yakumo that he, and other
creatures have been ordered to acquire the Ningen statue in order
to free Kaiyan Wang, a Sanjiyan who was imprisoned 300 years ago.
Yakumo ponders the fact that Pai is also 300 years old...

With a sneak attack, Ryouko knocks Yakumo away from the Ningen
statue and takes over Yakumo's hand which is holding a broad sword.
In a ironic fashion, it is Yakumo who will sacrifice Mei-Shin to
the glories of Kaiyan Wang. Yakumo stops this by cutting his own
hand off. Still in control of Yakumo's hand, Ryouko prepares
to deliver the killing blow himself when gunfire erupts from a new
  direction.

The new monster-attacker turns out to be Rambo -- I mean Pai -- who
screams "How do you STOP this thing?!". When she sees Yakumo, Pai
happily turns and runs toward him. Unfortunately, she STILL hasn't
stopped firing, so Yakumo takes a quick dancing lesson. Behind Pai
comes 3 more masked figures who DO know how to use their weapons,
and fire on Ryouko and the other masked figures (besides, it's
probably safer to be *behind* Pai :-)).

One of the masked figures reveals herself to be Ling-Ling, and she
goes absolutely ga-ga when she finds the Ningen statue. Never once
losing her idiotic smile, or breaking that silly song that she's
singing, Ling-Ling beats up everyone who tries to take that statue
  away from her.

A freed Mei-Shin asks if Yakumo and Pai are a couple. Pai gleefully
denies it, and says that Yakumo is her dachinko. This stuns
Mei-Shin, and turns Yakumo on his ear. :-)

When Yakumo asks Ling-Ling to let up on all the destruction, Ling-Ling
says that she doesn't care...Huang-san is covering all the expenses.
She then lobs a couple of grenades in random directions, and tells
everyone to get out. As they are leaving, Pai gets her first good
  look at the mini-temple...

Everyone is crammed into a helicopter, and Ling-Ling is ready to
leave when Yakumo notices that Pai is missing. Ling-Ling says that
she told Pai the way out, but Yakumo doesn't care. He says that
there is one person in the world who is more important than he is,
and that person is PAI! Whipping off his headband, he shocks
everyone with the revelation of what he is.

Pai is standing in the idol's palm and looking up at it. As she closes
her eyes, she remembers events that happened long ago...of a Sanjiyan
who brutally murdered other Sanjiyan. The 3rd eye opens as Sanjiyan
  also remembers.

Yakumo is running back to the altar when he runs into Ryouko
again. Ryouko is shocked when he realizes the Yakumo is a Wu,
and cannot believe that someone else has gotten the prize of
immortality. He takes out his disbelief on Yakumo while crying out
"It can't be!". He tries to kill Yakumo in order to prove that
  Yakumo really isn't a Wu...

A dark figure approaches Pai/Sanjiyan on the idol. Sanjiyan notices
first, and turns around. Fear enters her eyes...

In his first use of the powers of a Wu, Yakumo uses remote control of
his severed hand, and cuts off the wings of Ryouko. Ryouko
goes into spasms of agony, and Yakumo retrieves his hand and the
  sword.

Sanjiyan sends out a mental message: "Yakumo, help me..."

Yakumo has reattached his hand, and is running through the ruins
  calling Pai's name...

The ceiling of the temple is starting to collapse, and Ling-Ling lifts
off, despite the protests of Mei-Shin...

The dark figure stops just below Sanjiyan and looks at her. Sanjiyan
doesn't move, but only looks back without her customary arrogance, and
  with unaccustomed fear...

                    ===================================

[Prologue]

A recap of the events in OAV #3 ending with Sanjiyan looking
back at the dark figure, and Yakumo calling for Pai...

[Title: 3x3 Eyes]

The temple ceiling collapses, and the roof with it. Ling-Ling takes
the helicopter up. Yakumo arrives at the altar to find that the
idol has been destroyed when the roof collapsed. Looking around, he
finds Pai lying among the rubble. Pai regains consciousness and
calls for Yakumo. Looking up, Yakumo spies a dark figure walking
away through the dust. Then he disappears...

Helping Pai up to the roof, Yakumo finds the roof destroyed, and
the helicopter gone. Suddenly, the helicopter reappears from behind
the building, and Ling-Ling and company wave to them. Yakumo exclaims
that they came back for them, and Pai says that she really likes
  humans...

The temple to Kaiyan Wang is utterly destroyed.

The next morning, they are back at Huang-san's mansion. Ling-Ling
and a group of technicians are examining the Ningen statue to try
to discern its secrets. Huang-san is reading a newspaper on the
porch when Yakumo and Pai wave to her. The pair are going into
Hong Kong on a shopping expedition. They are joined by Mei-Shin
who says that they need a guide. It didn't take much intimidation
before Yakumo agrees, and Pai is as agreeable as ever.

Huang-san watches the interchange with amusement, and when they
leave, she instructs her henchman that, for now, no action is to
be taken regarding Yakumo and Pai. (Perhaps, she still believes
that presenting the Ningen statue will get her immortality from
  Kaiyan Wang...but failing that, there's always Pai/Sanjiyan...)

At the Hong Kong market, Pai excitedly goes down and starts looking
at the various stalls and their wares. Farther back, Yakumo and
Mei-Shin follow. Mei-Shin stops to look at a stall, and Yakumo
stops to wonder about what Pai will do when she becomes human.

He has a daydream where he asks Pai to return to Japan with him,
  and Pai (of course) rushing into his arms.  He hugs back...hard;
the picture of perfect contentment. Unfortunately, the blushing
Mei-Shin doesn't take too kindly to being hugged like that, and
  flattens Yakumo.

Meanwhile, Pai is enjoying herself immensely in her window shopping,
but stops suddenly. Almost unerringly, she looks at a dark figure
watching her from the shadows. In the light of day, we see that
this person has a 'Wu' mark on his forehead. Pai starts shaking -
  almost literally scared stiff.

Yakumo and Mei-Shin are walking down, and Yakumo spies Pai standing
in the crowd. He waves and calls her name, but Pai doesn't
respond. Yakumo notices that Pai is really frightened, and
looks over to where she's looking. He sees a dark figure walking
away...the same figure that he saw in the temple last night.

Yakumo pursues the figure into a blind alley. Puzzled that he
could have missed him, Yakumo turns around to return to Pai, and
almost walks into the figure's chest. Yakumo notes that this person
who has been scaring Pai is also a Wu. The dark figure demands
the Ningen statue, and with a flick of his power, the stranger
slams Yakumo into the end of the alley.

Before anything else happens, Sanjiyan intervenes and addresses the
stranger as Benares. Benares wants the Ningen statue, but Sanjiyan
refuses...even if it costs her life. Benares leaves it at that,
  and disappears.

The injured Yakumo asks Sanjiyan if, as he suspects, this Benares
character is Kaiyan Wang's Wu. Pai starts and turns around to
find the injured Yakumo (Sanjiyan has disappeared again). A worried
Pai wants to know (loudly) if Yakumo is all right. Yakumo gives up.

Mei-Shin is still in the market, looking around for Pai and Yakumo.
As she is wondering where they are, something merges with her
  shadow.

Back at the mansion, Ling-Ling joins Yakumo who is watching the
sunset on a balcony. Ling-Ling talks for a while, wondering why
Pai wants to become human. After all, Pai has things which are
greatly desired by others: she is immortal, and she has great
power. Yakumo replies that if Ling-Ling were not human, she would
understand. Ling-Ling briefly toys with the idea of becoming a
  'Wu', but decides not...

Later on, Mei-Shin reminds Yakumo to get ready
for the party that night. Yakumo wanders into his room, and
collapses on the bed. He is thinking about this new wrinkle...about
another Wu...one that can terrorize Pai and will even give Sanjiyan
pause. One who implies the existance of another Sanjiyan.

Mei-Shin has changed into a formal gown (Chinese style), and is
admiring herself in the mirror. She sees something move by her
feet and glances down. When she looks up again, her expression
  is blank.

Staring forward, Mei-Shin just looks at a glass shield, and the
glass explodes. She takes the Ningen statue and leaves. At the
dining room, Huang-san is informed of the events, and rushes down
the hallway to find Mei-Shin walking up...the Ningen statue in
  her arms.

Behind her, Yakumo, Ling-Ling and the others run into the hallway.
Steve calls his sister's name, but only gets a cold calculating
smile in return. Huang-san instructs her guards to take the statue
from Mei-Shin, but the 10 or 15 guards are just thrown off with a
  single push of her arm.

With progress impeded in both directions, Mei-Shin goes sideways
through the wall into a courtyard. Facing her on the other side
of the courtyard is Sanjiyan. The shadow demon possessing Mei-Shin
leaps forward to possess Sanjiyan, but Sanjiyan casts a spell which
banishes the demon from Mei-Shin's body, and destroys it.

High above, a giant glowing bird flys in. Sanjiyan notices, and
takes off after it. Yakumo goes after Sanjiyan...but he has to
  take the long way.

When Sanjiyan arrives, she sees the corpse of Takuhi on the bed.
It soon becomes apparent that poor Takuhi is being used as a
pawn by Benares. Benares tells her that she must give up the
Ningen statue to him. He will be waiting for her at the harbor
to come at a certain time. To refuse will mean the deaths of
everyone at the mansion. Sanjiyan asks if he intends to kill
her, but Benares only wants to put her to sleep so she can't
interfere. When Yakumo bursts in, Benares greets his fellow Wu
before departing. Takuhi's body falls apart, and Sanjiyan kneels
to cradle the body of her friend.

After burying Takuhi, Sanjiyan prays before the grave. She tells
Yakumo a story about a powerful Sanjiyan who wanted to enslave
the world. Nobody could do anything for this Sanjiyan had a
powerful Wu named Benares. This Sanjiyan ruthlessly slaughtered
all who opposed him. Gathering their strength, the surviving
Sanjiyan managed to banish Kaiyan Wang, but when she woke up,
  Pai was the only survivor...

Sanjiyan glances back at Yakumo, who is shocked to find that
Sanjiyan is crying. Sadly, she says that she thought it was
  all over...

With new determination, Sanjiyan tells Yakumo that their mission
has changed. No longer will they try to make Pai human. That will
have to wait until the new mission is done: to stop the revival
  of Kaiyan Wang!

Yakumo checks in on Mei-Shin to see if she's all right. It seems
that, since Mei-Shin seems to be ok, that the planned party is
  going to go on.

At the party, Ling-Ling toasts the guest of honor for his recovery.
Steve Long thanks everyone for what they've done. Mei-Shin adds
that the party is also a celebration for Pai becoming human. At
this, Pai breaks into uncontrollable giggles. Yakumo falls into
a brooding mood at this...he wonders if Pai knows about the change
in their mission, and that she won't become human anytime soon.
His brooding is interrupted as Pai wants to take a picture with him.
Pai is absolutely delighted in the way that the picture comes out.

Later, Yakumo is brooding on the balcony. Pai comes out to join
him. Gathering his courage, Yakumo asks Pai to come back to
Japan with him after they become human. Pai says that she will
when that happens. They share a first kiss.

Later, an intoxicated Yakumo is enjoying himself alot more at the
party. Mei-Shin wonders where Pai is. *That* is enough to
penetrate Yakumo's stupor, and he rushes out.

At this time, Pai is already going down the path from the mansion.
She wants to face Benares alone. The 3rd eye opens, and Sanjiyan
argues that it is foolish to face Benares without a Wu. Pai doesn't
want to bother Yakumo, or her dachinko any more. Sanjiyan seems
ready to argue some more, but Pai is no longer listening. She
is crying over the picture taken earlier of herself and Yakumo.

The 3rd eye looks down at the picture, and Sanjiyan says "Never
mind". Sanjiyan declares that they will go to meet Benares. United
in purpose, Pai/Sanjiyan proceeds down the mountain to face Benares
in order to protect Yakumo and her friends.

Yakumo has burst into Pai's room to find Pai missing, but her staff
is on the bed. Somehow, Yakumo knows what Pai is going to do.

Pai/Sanjiyan proceeds with determination down a Hong Kong street...

Yakumo is running down the mountain, trying to stop Pai...

Benares turns to greet Sanjiyan who has just arrived...

As Yakumo is running down the city streets, he remembers various
  times he spent with Pai...

Sanjiyan and Benares face off at the harbor...

Yakumo has reached a point overlooking the harbor...

Benares and Sanjiyan prepare to do battle. Sanjiyan glances back
to the place where Yakumo has collapsed from exhaustion. Pai thinks
once more of Yakumo. Then Benares strikes, and Sanjiyan responds...

Yakumo sees an explosion erupt at the harbor. Looking like a
nuclear blast, the shock waves from the explosion spread and
causes widespread damage. As the explosion reaches him,
  Yakumo screams Pai's name...

At the mansion, the party is interrupted as they watch the light
from the explosion over the mountain. They stand and watch and
wonder what is happening. Of them all, only Huang-san seems to
  have an inkling...

[epilog]

A train is running. On the train, Yakumo sits alone, looking at
a picture of Pai. His voiceover says that after the events in
Hong Kong, Pai didn't come back. But, he knows that she is alive
somewhere, for he is still alive. Like Pai did before him, now it
is his turn to look for Pai. And he won't stop until he finds her...
