These files were included in hope that they might be of help to those
without access to the manga, and in need of extra background information
to run or play a Sazan Eyes campaign. They're OAV adaptations of the
manga, done by Alan Takashi. The new OAV Series, 3x3 Eyes Seima Densetsu,
covers the same story.

With the exeception of some of the headers, a few cosmetic formatting
changes and updated "reader service" information, this file is original
and untouched. No text was modified, corrected or otherwise corrupted.
That also means the character names' spelling might not coincide with
the RPG ones.

Now, to Mr. Alan Takahashi (takahash@nt.com) excellent synopses:

                                Introduction
                    ===================================

(Last updated: 20-Jan-94) [new information added as of Q4-1997]

Well, everyone and their brother has been asking what happened after
the end of OAV #4. To answer the most frequent questions:

  1) I just saw part 4 of 3x3 Eyes. Were there any more parts made?
     Answer:
No. Due to poor sales, the "3x3 Eyes" series ends at part 4.
The series covered the first 2 volumes of the collected manga.
New: There are now 3 more OAVs, covering Pai Ayanokouji's story.

  2) What happened to Pai after the battle?
     Answer:
Further adventures for Pai and Yakumo continued in the manga.
As of this writing, there are 14 issues of the collected
       manga.
New: There are 26 issues as of now, and more to come.

  3) Are any more parts going to be made?
     Answer:
There is no firm information about a new series. A rumor
has surfaced that a new "3x3 Eyes" series was going to be
made, but that remains unconfirmed at this time. There was
also a comment made by Carl Macek of Streamline that they
were going to be involved in production of a new series (for
simultaneous US/Japan dubbed releases), but THAT certainly
       remains unconfirmed...
New: The new series was made, and Carl Macek did not have anything to
do with it (thank God ;-) ). Streamline Pictures does not hold the
rights to 3x3 Eyes anymore. MGM may never release the last episode
in the US, and the first two episodes of the new OAVs are now
       rumored to be get-them-while-they-last items.

  4) Why doesn't the male hero (Yakumo) ever open his eyes?
     Answer:
Artistic license. Actually, Yakumo's eyes ARE open, but
just appear shut to a casual observer. How's THAT for
       a rationalization? :-)

Since so many people want to know what happened to Pai after her
battle with Benares, I thought I would continue my synopsis where
I left off. To give it an added twist, pretend that a new 6 part
OAV series has been made, and that's what my synopsis are going to
describe...

To reiterate: this is based on the manga, NOT on any new anime OAV.

                          3x3 Eyes Pseudo-OAV #5
                    ===================================

  [From the last OAV]

A train is running. On the train, Yakumo sits alone, looking at
a picture of Pai. His voiceover says that after the events in
Hong Kong, Pai didn't come back. But, he knows that she is alive
somewhere, for he is still alive. Like Pai did before him, now it
is his turn to look for Pai. And he won't stop until he finds her...

  [Prologue]

A solitary figure climbs a desolute mountain. He pauses and shows
a picture of Pai to a passerby and asks a question. Getting another
  negative answer, Yakumo climbs on...

  [Title: 3x3 Eyes - Psuedo-Part 5]

It is now 4 years after the events in Hong Kong. At the end of a
school day, a young attractive girl rushes out to meet with her
friends. Pai knows that she's late so she hurries. Ken-ken and
Don-chan are both waiting for her and congratulate/tease Pai on her
newfound fame. A modeling magazine had taken random snapshots
of "girls on the street", and Pai's picture was one of those
  published.

[Note: Pai's language skills have improved immensely. Instead of
her heavy chinese accent, Pai now speaks Japanese like a
	 native...]

After being thoroughly embarassed, the 3 friends take a train to
Harajuku Station to go shopping. At the station, Pai suddenly gets
a strange feeling as if she's being watched. Looking around, she
doesn't see anything out of the ordinary. Ken-ken and Don-chan come
back to get Pai and she shakes off the feeling.

After changing out of their uniforms, the 3 girls spend an enjoyable
afternoon shopping. Later, they come upon a policeman who is telling
a vagrant to move on. Pai notices that the vagrant is holding the
modelling magazine. When he looks up, he spies Pai in the crowd.
Leaping up, he runs over to her and holds her in a tight hug.

After a moment of shock, Pai screams and fights to get away. She
runs away with her 2 friends and Yakumo can only look on in disbelief.

[Note: Yakumo was sitting next to the sign shown in Pai's picture and
in fact, had been sitting very close to where Pai was standing...]

Later, Pai and her friends are talking when she sees Yakumo running
by looking for her. Pai feels that her picture in the modelling
magazine can only bring more bad things to her and she feels very
frightened. Her friends try to calm her down whan a stranger interrupts.
He invites them in to a disco free. Feeling this was a good way to
cheer Pai up, Ken-ken and Don-chan drag Pai into the disco. None
notice the blank stare that the stranger sends in their direction...

Inside, there was a lot of frenzied activity with many people dancing.
Pai immediately noticed something strange...all of the people were
mannequins. Screaming, all 3 girls race out, but the doors close
before Pai can leave. She is immediately confronted by a tall
  female mannequin...

Screaming, Pai runs away into the back corridors of the disco. In
the dark, Pai can hear the mannequin crowd in pursuit. When they
arrive, the terrified Pai runs into a lit room where she begs for
help from the security guard that she finds there. The guard hears
her out as Pai babbles about mannequins.

When the guard stands up, he sprouts mannequin arms, and the female
mannequin makes her appearance. She demands "...show me your
power, Sanjiyan!". Pai stumbles backwards and is promptly buried
by mannequins. Held down, Pai is helpless.

Screaming and crying, the hysterical Pai can do nothing but struggle.
Suddenly, her forehead glows and 3 diamonds appear. Two of the
diamonds seal the 3rd eye shut, but the power released blasts the
  mannequins and the disco.

The light shines in the night sky and is visible throughout the city.
Pai's friends see it, and so does Yakumo. Pai is floating amid the
ruins of the disco when she opens her eyes. She thinks that she
sees a figure in the light, then she goes back to sleep.

As a crowd gathers at the ruins of the disco, Yakumo is walking
away carrying Pai in his arms. He takes her home...

The next morning, Pai wakes up in her bed. She is confused to find
herself in her bed. Any pondering is delayed as Pai realizes that
she's going to be LATE! Rushing into the bathroom, Pai takes a
shower. She remembers what happened and wonders whether it was
  a dream.

She wonders whether she has super powers or not. Jokingly, she
tries to open the door with her thoughts. It doesn't work, of
course, so Pai is caught unawares...and naked...as Yakumo opens
the door asking if this was the way to the bathroom. A second
passes, then Pai blushes furiously and Yakumo gets a suitable
  reward for peeking...in his head...

[Note: This is another change. Pai never seemed to worry before
about her clothes or lack thereof...]

During breakfast, Pai's grandparents tell Yakumo that Pai's
parents were killed in an auto accident. The marks on Pai's
forehead were scars left over from the accident. Yakumo basically
says "Uh HUUUUUH", but leaves it at that...

On her way to school, Yakumo walks with her. He explains that
he doesn't know why she doesn't remember, but Pai isn't human.
She is the last member of a race known as "Sanjiyan Unkara", a
race of great power. That race is supposed to have the magic
power of conferring immortaility which is why the monsters are
  after her.

Pai denies all of this and runs to a nearby police officer to
save her from this wierdo. To Pai's horror, Yakumo immediately
stabs the officer through his heart. The 'officer' turns into
a mannequin before Pai's eyes, but she still denies what Yakumo
is saying. She boards a bus to get away, and Yakumo throws her
a small glove. He tells her the glove will protect her. As
the bus pulls away, Yakumo senses something about it and swears.

Pai notices that the bus isn't stopping to let anyone on or off.
When she asks the driver to stop, she finds that she's on a
bus full of mannequins. Worse, she finds the mannequin queen
sitting on the back seat...with the unconscious forms of Ken-ken
and Don-chan! Pai tries to use her glove to get out of this...but
  nothing happens.

At a house somewhere, Pai is in a room full of mannequins. A
door opens and the mannequin queen pushes a man in a wheelchair.
She wants "Sanjiyan" to grant her father eternal life. Pai's
protests that she is only human angers her, and she strings
Pai up by her arms. Next, she transfers her friends' FACES
to a mannequin spider with two heads. She reasons that she can
use the spider to threaten "Sanjiyan" because "Sanjiyan" won't
  hurt her human friends.

Upon command, the spider starts ripping into Pai's clothes and
  Pai, herself...

Pai was crying out in pain, and tears were streaming out of the
monster-spider's eyes. Things were interrupted as a figure
smashed in an upper window and landed on the spider. Pai sees
a mannequin guard on top of the spider. Peering in after the body
he just threw in is Yakumo.

The mannequin queen (still in human guise) leaps up and attacks
Yakumo. He reacts swiftly and slices off her arm. This move
doesn't impress her a bit as a sword blade shoots out of the
stump of her arm and she attacks again. Yakumo dodges and
falls through the window to land in front of Pai.

Yakumo is here to rescue Pai, but she suddenly blushes. Pai's
clothes are in tatters and her shirt's open. She calls Yakumo
a hentai (pervert) for looking at her. After a moment of disbelief,
Yakumo takes his frustrations out on the mannequin army surrounding
them. After all, he is here to RESCUE her...and for the most part,
he manages to avoid looking at her again... :-)

The battle is starting to get out of hand though, so Yakumo calls
upon "Tou Chao" - the 3 clawed demon that we've seen in previous
OAVs. Tou Chao wipes the mannequin army out. THEN Yakumo finally
  unties Pai...

[Note: Yakumo has learned some pretty impressive fighting skills
in the time he's been searching for Pai...and beast magic too!]

Pai scans the rubble looking for the spider and is confronted by the
mannequin queen again. She gives Pai another chance to make her
father immortal, but Pai continues to insist that she's only human.
Yakumo interrupts to say that Pai is wrong, and tells her to chant
the spell "Barasu Vidahi". Pai gets halfway when her hand starts
glowing...then she freaks out. Yakumo sets off a firebomb and escapes
  with Pai.

Safe in a side room for now, Pai tends to Yakumo's injuries. Yakumo
apologizes for not teaching magic and the use of Shiva's Glove (the
glove that Pai's wearing) to Pai earlier. Yakumo warns, however,
that usage of her powers in this way will awaken Sanjiyan. In a
sense, Pai now has what she's been searching for...she is human.
  That shouldn't be discarded lightly...

One way out is the mannequin queen's father, so Yakumo looks for him.
He finds him. Before Pai can come in, Yakumo grabs her and says that
they have to escape. He never gets the chance as the mannequin
queen and spider find them. She sets the spider ablaze and it charges
Yakumo and Pai. Bellowing in agony, the spider smashes Yakumo and
Pai against a wall. Yakumo kicks against the wall; freeing Pai.

To Pai's horror, the spider stabs Yakumo through his chest. Yakumo
hangs limp as the triumphant mannequin queen comes forward. Pai gets
a deadly look in her eyes and recites her spell: "BARASU VIDAHI". The
  world explodes in light.

A wave of power smashes against the spider. Enraged, the mannequin
queen tries to kill Pai, but Pai redirects her power and blasts her.
Amongst all of this energy, an eye opens and two diamond shapes
  break off and shatter...

When Yakumo can see again, he sees Pai standing there. He notes a
little sadly that the third eye is open. "Sanjiyan" cheers and runs
over to hug Yakumo. The third eye closes without comment...

Yakumo restores Pai's friends to her delight. He also takes the remains
of the mannequin queen to her father where they are both finally
  together...in death.

The next day, a depressed Yakumo is walking to school with Pai. When
asked what's wrong, he explodes that he doesn't understand why, even
though Sanjiyan is awake, Pai still doesn't remember anything. Maybe
  if he kissed her.....*whap*!

At the Ayanokouji house (Pai's home), Pai's grandfather is looking at
a picture of Pai. Unlike the happy home pictures that he'd shown
Yakumo earlier, this old and beaten picture showed Pai at a party
  some time ago...holding onto Yakumo....

                    ===================================

(Last updated: 31-Jan-94)

Still continuing with the fake OAV series. For those who want to
keep track, this part starts just past the halfway point of volume
3 of the collected manga. I won't necessarily follow the manga
volumes' start/end points, but will try to break at appropriate
story points.

Again to reiterate: this is based on the manga, NOT on any new
anime OAV.

-----

*** The people in Pai's new life ***

Pai Ayanokouji - a young girl who, since a magazine picture was
published of her, has found that she is not the simple
Japanese schoolgirl that she thought she was. She wants to
find out more about herself...and Yakumo...

Sanjiyan - a mysterious entity who has now woken up because Pai
called upon her power by using Shiva's Glove.

Yakumo Fujii - a young man who seems to know Pai from her earlier
life. Very self assured, Yakumo also wants to help Pai
find out about her past. He also is able to call upon some
beast magics, as well as being a good fighter...

Ken-ken and Don-chan - Pai's two best friends from school. They
love to gossip, and to tease Pai about her love life. Before
the magazine pictures, the 3 girls were inseparable...

Steve Long - an exorcist by trade, Steve is Yakumo's colleague
from Yougekisha (Monster Buster Inc.), a Hong Kong occult
       magazine.

"Mama" - Yakumo's boss and owner of 'Culture Shock', a gay bar.
He knows about who Yakumo and Pai really are...

"Shiva's Glove" - not a glove per se, but a cloth piece that goes
over the palm. Loops go around the thumb and several fingers.
There is a Sanskrit character written on the Glove. This is a
key to unlocking Pai's power, and has become very important to her...

  [Prologue]

Night time. In the school's biology lab, a schoolgirl has sketched
an intricate design on the floor. She mutters a small spell, then
pauses. Taking a paper bag from her briefcase, she deposits it in
a corner trashcan. Returning, she completes her spell. Her
maniacal laughter echoes as a monster emerges from the symbol...

  [Title: 3x3 Eyes - Psuedo-OAV Part 6]

With the monster in the background, the girl walks over to a mirror.
In horror, Pai looks at herself...with the third eye open! Terrified,
  Pai screams...and wakes up...

Confused, Pai finds herself sitting down in her school uniform in
the middle of the park. At night. With everyone looking at her
curiously, wondering why she was screaming. Pai decides to sneak
  away quietly...

At "Culture Shock", Pai, Ken-ken and Don-chan are guests. They're
being served by Yakumo (who didn't dress up like a girl tonight).
Pai's friends are having a great time, teasing Pai about her
'boyfriend' and listening to his tales about fighting monsters.
Mama doesn't take it so well, though, when the girls ask Yakumo
to save them from this 'monster'...

Ken-ken and Don-chan take a cab home and Yakumo takes Pai home on
his motorcycle. On the way, Pai wonders anew who this Yakumo
person is. Why should she know a high school dropout who fights
monsters and works in a gay bar?

Yakumo interrupts her thoughts and tells her to always keep
Shiva's Glove handy, because it will save her as it did against
the mannequin monsters. In a sudden panic, Pai realizes that she
doesn't remember where she put the glove. She brushes off Yakumo's
curiosity at her agitation, but suddenly falls asleep. A worried
Yakumo races off to get a taxi, but when he returns, Pai is gone...

In their cab, Ken-ken and Don-chan notice something flying in the
night, but it's too fast to see...

The next morning, Pai wakes up screaming. She just had a horrible
nightmare where she was causing massive damage like knocking over
telephone booths for fun. Daylight was filtering into her window
as Pai calmed down. Moving across her bed, Pai finds a telephone
receiver. And the telephone it's connected to. And a road sign.
And a ton of other assorted roadside junk.

Pai wants to know where all this stuff came from. From somewhere
in the pile, Yakumo echoes that sentiment. An embarrassed Pai
(she's still in her pajamas) wants to know why Yakumo is in her
room, but he just wanted to make sure she's all right. The exhausted
Yakumo promptly grabs a giant doll, and goes back to sleep...

At school, the class is abuzz with the latest gossip. According
to the newspapers, the city was vandalized by some flying monster and
what looks like a girl riding it. They move so fast that even a camera
can't capture anything more than a blur. Pai realizes that her dreams
weren't dreams and that something has happened to her...

During a break, Pai stands by a gate and talks to Yakumo. He tells
her about her second personality...the arrogant Sanjiyan. This
personality controls the awesome power of her race, but can be
suppressed by using Shiva's Glove. This is why keeping Shiva's
  Glove is so important...

Back in the classroom, Pai looks for Shiva's Glove in her bag. She
can't find it. She remembers that she put it in a paper bag labeled
"What!". Pai suddenly has a vision of that bag in a trash can and
feels faint. She collapses to her knees, then stands up again.
Ignoring everyone asking if she's all right, Pai walks purposely
into the corrider. A teacher follows her...and is almost crushed
when a section of wall explodes. Sanjiyan grins and gets on her
pet: "Fei Oh" (looks like a flying slug with its eye in its mouth).

Yakumo sees Fei Oh fly overhead and he knows he's in trouble now.
He takes off running after it. On Fei Oh, Sanjiyan rejoices that
she is finally free. With a maniacal laugh, Sanjiyan heads downtown...

Dusk. Yakumo has made it downtown. The signs of Sanjiyan's passage
are everywhere. Following the trail of damage, Yakumo finally spots
Sanjiyan. She's actually standing there while some guy tries to
pick her up for a date!!

He finally gets to the point where he promises that he'll get
anything for her. Sanjiyan (her 3rd eye is covered by her bangs)
asks if that's really true. He says of course. Sanjiyan promptly
starts pointing out things that she wants...like that traffic signal
over there, and how about that building decoration? This guy is MORE
than happy when Yakumo interrupts Sanjiyan's window shopping...

Unlike this other guy, Sanjiyan knows Yakumo...and she DOESN'T like
him. She demands that he leave her alone...she is free and can do
anything that she likes. She summons Fei Oh, startling Yakumo.
Before she can leave though, Yakumo decides that she will NOT leave
her Wu behind...and takes off his headband.

To his surprise, the 'Wu' mark on his forehead means nothing to
Sanjiyan. Yakumo realizes that Sanjiyan doesn't remember any more
than Pai does. Sanjiyan takes off, but Yakumo grabs Fei Oh's tail
and comes on for the ride.

[Note: In fact, if you look at Sanjiyan's behavior, she's acting
just like a little kid in a candy store...]

Sanjiyan is going to knock Yakumo off, but he offers to get her
  memory back. This intrigues her...

Sanjiyan has another question...she can feel the warm presence of
someone else inside of her. Sanjiyan snaps that it's NOT Pai,
when Yakumo suggests that. She wonders if Yakumo knows what it
is. Yakumo tells her that it's the soul of someone else whom
she made immortal once. Yakumo promises that Sanjiyan will meet
him someday. This makes Sanjiyan VERY happy...

One more...Sanjiyan wants to go home. She wants to meet others of
her own kind. Yakumo tells her that it's not possible. She is the
last of her race. Upset, Sanjiyan rushes Yakumo wanting him to
deny this...and she accidentally knocks him off Fei Oh. Panicked,
she commands Fei Oh to save Yakumo. Feh Oh dives to catch Yakumo
  in his mouth...and crushes him...

Aghast, Sanjiyan can't believe what she did and she screams "STOP!".
Falling to her knees, Sanjiyan starts sobbing...and the 3rd eye
closes as she retreats. Pai opens her eyes...and realizes what
happened. She screams "Yakumo-san!" uselessly...then notices the
police helicopters that have surrounded Fei Oh...

A police sniper takes aim, and Pai realizes that she can't control
Fei Oh. She begs him not to shoot, but he does. The shot hits
her in the arm, and stuns Pai. The police orders her to put down
somewhere. Pai is on her knees...but it's Sanjiyan who glares up
  with murder in her eyes.

Fei Oh's attack smashes in the side of the chopper. Heavily damaged,
it limps back to base while Sanjiyan goes after another one. This
one has it's bottom smashed in, but the impact knocks Sanjiyan off.
She can't fly, so Sanjiyan has a beautiful view of the city below,
just as an arm snakes out and grabs her. Yakumo is still alive in
  Fei Oh's mouth.

Yakumo manages to throw Pai onto a building. He yells for her to
find Shiva's Glove. At this point, Pai can only watch in horror as
Fei Oh crushes Yakumo into several million bloody pieces...

Tearfully, Pai climbs down the tower...then she notices Fei Oh coming
back to attack HER. Fei Oh smashes into the building as Pai makes
her escape down a stairwell. Taking a taxi away from the scene,
Pai sees Fei Oh still at the building surrounded by police helicopters.

At the school, Pai makes her way to the biology lab...but finds the
trash can empty. The janitors have made their rounds already. Her
only chance is if she can find her bag at the incinerator. Down
there, Pai finds only ashes. Desperately, since she doesn't have
any other place to look, Pai steps in the middle of the ash to look
up the disposal stack. Amazingly, she sees a paper bag labeled
"What!" caught on the side of the wall 3 stories up!

[Note: In this frame in the manga, the bag actually has "WAHT!" on
	 the side... :-)]

Racing up, Pai gets to the disposal chute...ignoring the mental pleas
of Sanjiyan to stop. The bag is JUST beyond her reach though, then
Pai has a new problem. Fei Oh blasts the wall in just down the hall
  from Pai...

Sanjiyan begins to taunt Pai, saying that she had better let go or
else Fei Oh will kill her. Pai replies that Sanjiyan will die as
well if that happens. She avoids the first attack and counterattacks
with a fire extinguisher. Throwing it into Fei Oh's mouth causes the
extinguisher to release a cloud of fog...

Fei Oh is still. Pai tries to get back into the chute for the bag,
but it's STILL just beyond her reach. Sanjiyan turns the taunting
up to full steam and Pai grabs her head and screams for Sanjiyan to
stop. Out of the corner of her eye, Pai notices Fei Oh moving again,
and squeezes THROUGH the chute to get to the bag. Fei Oh smashes the
wall in, and Pai grabs the bag as she falls past it.

  The fall will kill her.

Ignoring Sanjiyan, Pai opens the bag and puts Shiva's Glove on.
  Unexpectedly, she has a vision...

In a strange land, a little girl who we will know as Pai is crying
because she's alone. A majestic Sanjiyan comes and picks her up.
  Pai-chan is very happy...

Surrounded by numerous dead Sanjiyan, Pai struggles to complete a
spell that will banish that same Sanjiyan. The last of her kind,
  she wins...

  "Pai!"

Pai jerks awake to Yakumo's voice as she finds herself falling straight
into Fei Oh's jaws. Yakumo wants her to use her power, but Pai doesn't
want to kill Fei Oh. There's no time for anything else as Fei Oh
captures Pai in its mouth. Her arm is caught in the jaws and blood
spurts. Pai screams from the pain, then tries to recite her spell:
  "BA - RA - SU - VI - - -". Pai's arm disappears into Fei Oh and
  there's silence.

Yakumo is in stunned shock...then he hears Pai's voice again: "DA - HI!"
Fei Oh explodes in light and disgorges Pai. The power of Shiva's Glove
shines right into Fei Oh...then Pai falls. Yakumo can't save her, but
Pai lands on Fei Oh who brings her to ground safely. It then disappears.

On the way home, Yakumo is carrying Pai...and he is VERY angry with her.
He reminds her that though she is immortal, she is NOT invulnerable
and she can be killed. Pai understands Yakumo's anger...with him
being her Wu, if she dies, he dies. Yakumo says that she's wrong.
He cares about her because......he loves her....

School. Pai is in her teacher's office explaining why she is leaving
school. Later, Yakumo reminds her to keep Shiva's Glove on...no need
for Sanjiyan to cause even MORE havoc. Pai goes to bed...and leaves
Shiva's Glove on her nightstand. The 3rd eye opens, but Pai doesn't
want to keep Sanjiyan a prisoner. Sanjiyan agrees to look for their
  shared lost past together...

Some time later, at a water amusement park, Pai is with Ken-ken and
Don-chan. They tease her, saying that she really DOES like Yakumo-san,
doesn't she? Threatening her with a toss down one of the more
ambitious water slides, Pai finally admits that she MIGHT like Yakumo
a little bit. That's not enough, and Pai goes down anyway...

Yakumo is doing some research based on Pai's flashback. Going through
some files sent over from Yougekisha, he finds an incense burner with
the 3-eyes symbol on it. He's told that he has a visitor from
Yougekisha, and Yakumo goes to meet him...

Pai, having been prodded by her friends, wanders into Yakumo's room
later to ask him for a date. Yakumo isn't in, but the picture of
the incense burner is. Curious, Pai picks up the book...and another
picture falls out. Pai is stunned when she realizes that this
picture is of herself...one she has no memory of having taken...

Yakumo is surprised to find Pai in his room, but he tells her that
the incense burner is probably a key to finding the Sanjiyan Holy
Land. He'll be leaving for China soon. Pai wants to come along, but
Yakumo vetos that idea. Instead he introduces Pai to Steve Long, who
immediately wraps Pai in a bear hug. Pai squeals in fright.

Steve Long is going to be Pai's guardian while Yakumo is away. Pai
still wants to go to China to search for her OWN past. Yakumo still
  says NO...it's too dangerous...

They need some more information, so Yakumo has Pai go through a CAT
scan. Yakumo has to calm the doctor down and veto any further tests
since the doctor hadn't seen a girl like this before. Basically,
though, the diamond on her head had actually sent many tendrils into
her brain. It's the probable cause of Pai's memory loss. It can't
be removed by surgery...it would remove itself, given the proper
stimulus. What that stimulus was was anyone's guess...

Outside, Yakumo and Steve Long speculate on what that signal could
be. They didn't come up with anything by the time Pai appeared
behind them. Pai was acting very tentative toward Yakumo, but jumped
at the chance when Steve Long offered to treat her. Yakumo glumly
watched them walk away...then had it out with a cow. The cow won...

Inside the cafe, Steve explained that Yakumo had sacrificed a great
deal in his search for Pai. He had given up on any further pretense
that he was human, and had gone through the effort to learn how to
use beast magic. Now that he's found Pai, he didn't want to lose
her again, so that's why Yakumo didn't want Pai to come with him.
It was simply too dangerous. Pai listened through all of this,
but when asked if she liked Yakumo, she said she hated him!

At the airport, Steve repeated Pai's final message to Yakumo. Yakumo
shrugged and noted that Pai wasn't even here to see him off. Yakumo
tensed up though, since he feared that Pai might still try to pull
something. When the plane actually took off, he relaxed...

...until the girl in the next seat started talking. Pai smiled
sweetly and proudly showed the dazed Yakumo her new passport that
Steve Long had arranged for her...

Note: this is based on the manga, NOT on any new anime OAV. In my
own quest for info, I've been told that there *is* a new "3x3 Eyes"
OAV coming out in late 1994...

Mea culpa dept: I stated earlier that there were 14 volumes of the

*** Searchers in the quest for the Holy Land ***

Pai Ayanokouji - a young girl who, since a magazine picture was
published of her, has found that she is not the simple
Japanese schoolgirl that she thought she was. She has a
diamond shaped "scar" on her forehead related to her memory
loss. She has now gone on a quest to find her past...

Sanjiyan - Pai's other half. A mysterious personality who wields
enormous power. When the third eye is open, Sanjiyan is usually
the one in control. Has shown childlike petulance, and has the
power to destroy whatever's upsetting her. This personality
is suppressed as long as Pai wears "Shiva's Glove"...

Yakumo Fujii - a young man who seems to know Pai from her earlier
life. Very self assured, Yakumo also wants to help Pai
find out about her past. In China, he functions as guide,
       searcher and protector for Pai...

Jake MacDonald - A treasure hunter from America. He is searching
for the fabled home of the Sanjiyan for his own reasons...

Choukai - Yet another searcher. He controls a variety of monsters,
and is willing to use them to stop the other searchers. He
also has magic powers in the form of handwritten charms...

Ran-Pao-Pao - A tall strong monster under Choukai's command. The
       main 'strongman'...

Hong-Nyang - A little red headed girl who befriends Pai. She is
       hiding a dark secret...

  [Prologue]

It's the year 1678. In a small clearing, a group of Sanjiyan
watch as one of them is prepared for execution for opposing the
great Kaiyan Wang.. Presiding over this was Kaiyan Wang himself.
The crowd is fearful and no one says anything...until a little
girl cries out for the execution to stop.

Pai-chan steps out before Kaiyan Wang and asks why he must do this.
Without a word, Kaiyan Wang casts his spell, and the helpless Sanjiyan
is beheaded. He then tells Pai-chan that violence is the Holy Power.

Pai-chan denies that, preferring love and friendship as her Holy Power.
Kaiyan Wang says that in a couple of hundred years, we'll see who's
  right...

[Title: 3x3 Eyes - Psuedo OAV Part 7]

The present. China. Pai wakes up from her dream/flashback to find
herself in a motorcycle sidecar with Yakumo. They have arrived at the
antique store where Yakumo first saw the incense burner with the
Sanjiyan emblem. Yakumo grins at her, and sets off up the hill to
  where the shop is.

Taking her time, Pai follows Yakumo up the hill. In her mind,
she composes a letter back to her friends in Japan. Her
progress is blocked when a man runs out and bumps into her.
Pai complains loudly, but with a muttered "Sorry", the man
runs on until he is surrounded by police. A small fight ensues,
but the man escapes. Bemused, Pai watches him disappear...

At the antique shop, Pai is greeted by a vicious dog...and
Yakumo. She waves a can of food at it and the dog takes it...can
and all. Nervously, she hurries inside the shop to join Yakumo.

Yakumo isn't having a good day either. At this point, he is
arguing with the shopkeeper. The negotiation is going slowly,
since Yakumo can't speak Chinese...and his phrasebook is of only
limited help. The incense burner is sitting on the counter.

Pai interrupts at this point, and tells the shopkeeper that
they'll buy the incense burner...in fluent Chinese. A second
later, she starts congratulating herself...she didn't even know
  that she knew Chinese!

Further action is interrupted as the American who bumped into Pai earlier
complains that the shopkeeper had raised the price from the day
before, and that HE still wants it. Being a merchant, the shopkeeper
is merely taking advantage of the sudden demand for the burner.

ANOTHER voice interrupts and says that he'll buy the burner at 3 times
the price quoted to Pai. A Chinese man has entered the store. Of
course, the shopkeeper agrees, but the American wasn't to be denied...he
grabs the burner and tries to escape with it. A massive arm crashed
through the window and slashed the American. A monstrous demon had come
to aid the Chinese buyer. He picked up the burner, but Yakumo kicked it
away and grabbed it. Grabbing Pai, he runs away.

The merchant never did get paid for his burner... :-)

Yakumo and Pai split up to meet at the hotel later. Pai protests,
but Yakumo feels it's safer this way. On her way back, Pai runs
across the wounded American. She decides to help him, but this
only results in BOTH of them being caught by a group of uniformed men.

Yakumo has confronted Choukai, the Chinese bidder for the incense
burner (with Pai's vicious dog) to find out why HE wants the burner.
The tables are turned when Choukai's demon, Ran-Pao-Pao, appears
behind Yakumo. Ran-Pao-Pao kills the dog, then proves to Yakumo
that 4 arms are better than 2 when fighting...

Some time later, Pai wakes up in the basement of an old house.
She finds that both she and the American have been stripped to
their underwear...and it's COLD! Now that she's awake, Choukai
walks in and tells her that she's the bait in a trap. It seems
that Yakumo had escaped from his fight with Ran-Pao-Pao, along
with the burner and Choukai wants it back.

The American, of course, is useless. Pai assumes a guard position
over the body and demands that he be taken to a hospital. Bemused,
Choukai takes out a pad of paper and creates a healing charm. He
instructs Pai to put it on the American's chest to help him, but
there is NO way that he'll allow either one of them to escape.

The plan is this: Choukai has left an ad in the newspaper for Yakumo
to exchange the burner for Pai. At the exchange point, a special
trap will be triggered, and Yakumo will be sucked in to suffer
forever. Aghast, Pai wasn't going to allow this to happen and
begins to recite her spell...until she noticed that Shiva's Glove
is missing. There's nothing she can do...

Choukai leaves to get ready for Yakumo. Pai sinks to her knees in
despair and is startled when the American wakes up and looks around.
He introduces himself as Jake MacDonald, treasure hunter extraordinare.
Pai is amazed at his quick recovery, but MacDonald puts it down to his
recuperative abilities. He scoffs when Pai points out the charm on
his chest, but doesn't remove it...

The next order of business is to escape. They can't go out, but they
can go up. They manage to leave the basement unobserved and move
up through the house. They crawl between floors and eventually end
up in a corner room. By the window is a small shrine. Pai is shocked
to find that the picture is that of the Sanjiyan in her dream...

Engrossed in the shrine, Pai doesn't initially notice the figure coming
toward her from the shadows. MacDonald does and immediately pounces
on it. Pai finds that MacDonald has just assaulted a little girl...

Later that day, a one-eyed winged demon comes back to Choukai to
report that it can't find the escaped prisoners. Choukai makes an
example of the "man" in charge for failure...in a very messy fashion.
He instructs the rest of the group to find them at once! They disperse
with alacrity. Choukai leaves again to prepare for Yakumo...

In the forest, Pai is taking care of Hong-Nyang, the little girl that
MacDonald had beaten up earlier. MacDonald returns from looking around
and reports that the search is on for them and they won't be able to
  stay hidden for long.

Hong-Nyang wakes up...and buries her head in Pai's chest so that Pai
will save her from that mean MacDonald. MacDonald is miffed, but
doesn't have the luxury of wallowing in it...they've been found.
MacDonald shows that he's an impressive fighter too. One of the
guards tries to blow a whistle to summon the monster Ran-Pao-Pao, but
  MacDonald flattens him first.

Pai shows that she's not helpless either. Grabbing a tree branch,
she bashes any guard that comes her way...anything to protect
Hong-Nyang. Pai shrieks and runs away in panic, though, when a
worm crawls out of her tree branch...

After seeing "Super-Pai" retreat from a worm, MacDonald follows to
cover their backs. The trio come across a seaplane with its engine
running. The plane would provide a perfect escape...all they
need is a way to get past all the guards...

One of the guards notices a picture floating down the river past the
plane. In panic, he realizes that it is the shrine to Kaiyan Wang
and shouts for his fellow guards to rescue it. Pai manages to sneak
onto the plane during the commotion and revs up the engine.

MacDonald has been cut off from Pai. Suddenly he is sighted by a
guard and is shot and wounded. The guard moves forward to finish
the job when Pai overflies them and MacDonald manages to grab one
of the pontoons. It wasn't very neat, but they've escaped and
Pai vows to rescue Yakumo in time...

In the meantime, Yakumo is on his way to the rendezvous. He pauses,
having noticed something strange and moves a small boulder to reveal
that a charm has been written under it. Yakumo suspects a trap ahead,
but has little choice if he wants Pai back. Hefting the incense
  burner, Yakumo continues on...

Pai is flying the plane. The girls have put some clothes on from
the plane's supplies, so it's not as cold. Hong-Nyang still wants
Pai to protect her from MacDonald, but MacDonald is more concerned
about how Pai is flying. Her reply that she learned how to fly from
playing video games doesn't do much to reassure MacDonald...

This is, of course, the point where the plane goes wildly out of
control because of all the bullet holes in the engine...

Yakumo has reached the rendezvous point...a cliff overlooking a valley.
On the other side of the valley is Choukai. Yakumo shows that he has
the incense burner, but Choukai wants proof that this is the REAL one.
He instructs Yakumo to drop some blood on it. Puzzled, Yakumo cuts
his arm and does so...and is astonished when a beam of light leaps up
from the burner to form a brief portal in the sky.

Satisfied, Choukai produces a naked Pai...whom he throws down the cliff.
Screaming, Pai falls to the valley floor and lies still. Yakumo
scrambles down to find that he's been reunited with an animated fake.
In horror, Yakumo struggles while "Pai" hugs him and her face melts
away. He finds that he is inside of a mystic circle. Choukai activates
the trap, and "Pai" drags Yakumo even deeper into it.

As Yakumo is being helplessly sucked into the trap, he hears the buzz
of an airplane. Looking up, he spots the fiery plane headed right
towards the trap. Pai crashlands the plane and skids right over Yakumo.

Choukai, though surprised at Pai's sudden appearance, blows a oddly
shaped whistle. Pai and Yakumo are picking themselves out of the
wreckage when Hong-Nyang turns into Ran-Pao-Pao! Ignoring Pai's
entreaties, she attacks Yakumo, trying to get the burner. Pai tries
to get to the little girl that she knew, but it's no use...

MacDonald is getting away with the incense burner, but is cornered
by Choukai. He tries to bargain the burner for the lives of Pai
and Yakumo, but it's no use...Choukai will kill them all...

Yakumo tells Pai to get away, but she spots Shiva's Glove...hanging
around Ran-Pao-Pao's neck. The fight escalates and both Yakumo and
Ran-Pao-Pao are wounded. Pai tries to break up the fight, but it's
too late...they've wandered back into the trap and are caught...

MacDonald has come back to the cliff in time to see all 3 of them
disappear. A gloating Choukai is right behind him...

In the trap, the energies tear flesh apart. Pai's arm explodes and
she cries out. She remembers her promise to meet Kaiyan Wang again,
and moves to get Shiva's Glove. Though in agony, Ran-Pao-Pao is still
true to her master and slashes Pai's chest open. Somehow, Pai manages
to get Shiva's Glove, but is weakening fast...

MacDonald is still gazing at the trap when it explodes. Out of the
rubble comes a Sanjiyan, her Wu and Ran-Pao-Pao. MacDonald is shaken
when he realizes he's been travelling with a Sanjiyan. So is Choukai.
He orders his minions to attack Pai, but they all run off in terror
before the Sanjiyan. Choukai, himself, attacks with a charm, but Pai
raises Shiva's Glove and chants: "BARASU VIDAHI". The backlash blows
Choukai back and he begs for mercy...

Pai gives him a blank look..and the third eye closes. Pai starts
coughing up blood and collapses. Ran-Pao-Pao takes this chance and
escapes with Choukai. Yakumo cries out Pai's name over and over
again, but Pai can't hear him any more...

Pai is falling into darkness. Before her rises the figure of Kaiyan
Wang. She apologizes to him for being unable to keep her promise...

The daylight awakens Pai. She is back in the motorcycle sidecar with
the burner in her lap. Someone has bandaged her wounds, and MacDonald's
healing charm is on her chest. Hearing voices, she turns to see Yakumo
and MacDonald coming back with water. Yakumo is crying hysterically
while MacDonald is trying to reassure him about the charm...

The sight of Pai sitting up causes Yakumo to rush over and grab her.
Lifting her over his head, Pai laughs and waves the burner around
  triumphically...

Pai still has a chance to keep her promise...

Did this one in a hurry. Can you tell? :-)

Mea culpa dept: This one is a doozy. I got the main monster's name wrong.
Instead of "Ran-Bao-Bao", it should be "Ran-Pao-Pao". I guess that's what
I get for not double-checking my sources (though you have to admit, it's
pretty HARD to read that furigana)... :-)

  [Prologue]

Three figures hike up a mountain to a plateau. One of them places
an object down on the plateau. Holding a chicken out, he cuts the
chicken's throat. As the chicken dies, blood drops from its
severed neck onto the incense burner.

The burner explodes in light and a beam leaps up into the clouds
  a hundred meters above them...

Well, THAT experiment went nowhere. Pai and Yakumo ponder what
to do next while MacDonald just looks on in disgust...

  [Title: 3x3 Eyes Psuedo-OAV #8]

Tibet. Pai and Yakumo wander the streets of a town looking for
information. Along the way, Yakumo explains that what they seek
is probably going to be somewhere around the Konron mountains.
Legend has it that the entrance to the fabled Holy Land of the
Sanjiyan Unkara is located somewhere in Konron. Pai spends her
time peering very closely at a map...

At a local temple, they ask the monk there about what he knows
regarding Sanjiyans and shows the monk a picture of the incense
burner. The monk doesn't know anything about the burner and Yakumo
sighs in resignation. With a shiver, Pai notices the statues in the
temple...statues showing figures with demon faces and three eyes...

Night. A shopkeeper tells MacDonald that he doesn't know about
how to find Sanjiyans and doesn't know anything about the incense
burner. On the way back to the modest hotel, MacDonald notices
that he's being followed. Without missing a beat, MacDonald
starts whistling and continues on his way...

Back at the hotel, MacDonald is greeted by Pai. His "knight in
shining armor" routine is interrupted as Yakumo comes up behind
Pai to say hi. Yakumo's dinner (a bowl of noodle soup) ends up
on Yakumo's head. This, of course, rapidly escalates to a full
fledged fight (though Yakumo seems to be apologizing a lot :-)).

An amused Pai ignores the fight to look out the window. She is
more than a little startled to find that a large group of monks
  have surrounded the building...

The monks break into the groups' room. All they find is an
empty room and a large hole in the wall...with 3 claw marks
leading up to the hole. The ensuing search turns up nothing
in the hotel or immediately around it.

On the roof, Pai observes all the activity along with Yakumo and
MacDonald. She catches a chill from the breeze (Pai is the only
one in her pajamas) and starts to sneeze. Quick action by Yakumo
muffles the sound, and Pai promises not to do it again...

They haven't found the group yet, so the monks have expanded
their search. One of them finds a clue on a path...Pai's pajama
top. Following the path, he finds Pai's pajama pants. This is
followed in rapid succession by a tanktop, a bra and panties. The
celibate monk is *completely* unprepared for the next item on the
path...a very cute and very nude girl covered with a blanket.

With a twinkle in her eye, Pai suggestively beckens and welcomes
her visitor. In an utter panic, the monk backs away and runs
right into MacDonald...who also bids him welcome (in an imitation
of Pai's 'cute' voice)...and smothers him. As Pai takes her
blanket off (revealing a short outfit), Yakumo sits nearby in
utter disgust. He can't believe that this plan actually worked!

Later, they question the monk. It soon becomes apparent that the
monk isn't going to tell them anything. MacDonald threatens him,
and the monk strikes back...with a rapid kick to Pai's face. A
shocked MacDonald retaliates immediately, but Pai tries to stop
him. MacDonald's punch catches Pai in her face and Pai slams
against the wall heavily. There is total silence in the hut for
a moment...even Pai is too dazed to say anything and the monk
can't believe what she just did...

Yakumo treats Pai's head and scolds her. An unrepentant Pai
apologizes, but protests that she couldn't let the monk be
hurt. Since the questioning was now at a dead end, Pai suggests
a new plan. Why don't they allow themselves to be captured?
If they get into real trouble, she's still wearing Shiva's Glove...

Yakumo agrees that it's a good plan...particularly since they
don't have any choice. The smoke from their chimney has located
  them and they've been captured.

Morning. A large group of monks heads up to their mountain
monastery. Pai, Yakumo and MacDonald are being led with their
hands tied. Pai is the only one who got to keep all her clothes
(and judging from the trap last night, this is probably a good
idea :-)). On the way up, Pai asks 'her' monk about Konron and
why they tried to stop them. The only reply she gets is that they
will probably be put to death...

Once at the monastery, they are thrown into a pit which is sealed
by iron bars and magically sealed with a ward...proof that the
monks are acquainted with magic. It's so cold down here that Pai
starts shivering despite her robe. There's nothing to do, so the
group decides to get some sleep. Pai notices some movement out of
the corner of her eye and screams...

Yakumo says that the huge monster coming toward them is called
Shi-Yao-Chong. MacDonald worries what it might do to him, but
Yakumo tells him to relax. All MacDonald will get are some small
bites. The REAL trouble comes to magical creatures...Shi-Yao-Chong
eats the magic from those creatures. It is fatal to Pai and Yakumo...

Pai wants to use Shiva's Glove, but Yakumo stops her. In this
confined area, they would survive but the backlash would kill
MacDonald. Up above, Pai's monk asks Gierutsuap, the lead monk
why the pit is being used. It should only be used with the
permission of Teinzuin, the head of their monastery. Gierutsuap
says that their possession of the incense burner is proof enough
that they are looking for Konron and that's enough. Their order
exists to protect the Sanjiyan Unkara from such infidels...

A voice from below screams that she *IS* a Sanjiyan Unkara. Pai
says that she has lost her memory and wants to go home. Gierutsuap
takes this as the final blasphemy...pretending to be a Sanjiyan...and
commands Shi-Yao-Chong to attack. It goes after Pai first, but
Yakumo gets in the way and is swallowed up in the monster.

Pai can only watch in horror, then her eyes get a determined look.
She raises Shiva's Glove to attack, but Shi-Yao-Chong gets her next.
As she sinks in its flesh, Pai watches with horror as Shiva's Glove
slips off her hand. She and Yakumo are soon senseless as the
  monster feeds on their magic.

In triumph, Gierutsuap walks away...then a NEW voice rises from the
pit. In shock Gierutsuap watches as Pai spits out the gunk in her
mouth...then she raises an arm and invokes her spell: "Feh Oh!".
The monster and the pit explodes. When the smoke clears, Feh Oh is
in the air and Gierutsuap gets proof of Pai's claim as Sanjiyan
breaks into maniacal laughter. For what's been done to her, Sanjiyan
is going to take FULL revenge...and she's going to enjoy herself
  while she's at it.

Before she can really get into it, Sanjiyan is interrupted by an egg
thrown by an old man. This is Teinzuin, the head of the monastery.
He chides Sanjiyan for her behavior and treats her like an errant
little girl who needs a little discipline. Sanjiyan goes ballistic
at this treatment and is about to tell Feh Oh to eliminate this
annoyance when she's interrupted AGAIN...this time by a disembodied
  voice.

Pai begs Sanjiyan to stop and listen...they NEED Teinzuin if they are
going to find the Holy Land. Sanjiyan is too angry to listen to
reason and starts the attack. Pai tries to wake Yakumo up (he is also
on Feh Oh) and pleads with him to stop Sanjiyan. Yakumo nearly freaks
out when he sees the look on Sanjiyan's face, but does the only thing
he can. Throwing himself at Sanjiyan he kisses her on the mouth. For
a long time. Sanjiyan freezes in shock and turns red. The third eye
closes, but Sanjiyan turns redder and redder. Pai finally knocks
Yakumo away and just about dies from the embarrassment.

The monks *really* have no idea what to make of this... :-)

Gierutsuap meets with a dark figure to report his failure. He was to
stop Pai's group from continuing and to retrieve the incense burner.
Choukai fumes at the failure and arranges a suitable punishment for
Gierutsuap. He will perform a final task for his master Choukai...

Pai gets Shiva's Glove and tells Feh Oh to shrink and sit on her
shoulder. The monks start to clean up the mess. MacDonald is
rescued from the pit. Pai blushes when Teizuin tells her that she
  is a good girl...unlike Sanjiyan...

Teinzuin tells them that the mark on Pai's forehead is a sign of evil.
It is a magic called "Choang-Rin-Rin". Yakumo wants to know more,
but Teinzuin doesn't know any more. He only states that it is
forbidden to seek a Sanjiyan. Before he can go much further,
Teinzuin is interrupted by Gierutsuap for a conference...who stabs
him. Pai is stunned when she sees "Choang-Rin-Rin" on his forehead...
just like the one on hers...

Pai looks to Yakumo to protect them, but she sees something that
greatly disturbs her. Yakumo is shaking like a leaf...his intuition
tells him that Benares is involved, and Yakumo is terrified of the
possibility. Gierutsuap rushes to attack again, and Yakumo and
MacDonald brace to defend Teinzuin. Suddenly, Gierutsuap stops in
mid-rush and he explodes from within. There is now only a bloody
mess centered around a bunch of robes...

The wounded Teinzuin shows that a map to Konron is tattooed on his
back. He also gives Pai a key...the Key to the Holy Land. Before he can
say more, Choukai attacks with a charm that showers Pai with freezing rain,
thus preventing her from using Shiva's Glove. Ran-Pao-Pao attacks Yakumo
and rips his right arm off. She takes Teinzuin and both depart. Pai can
  only shiver and whisper "Hong-Nyang"...

Pai takes a hot bath to try to recover. Later, she joins Yakumo on
the balcony. Curiously enough, his arm isn't regenerating, so that
means that Choukai must have put some kind of seal on it. Yakumo
also wonders about why the diamond rhombus had a different effect
on Gierutsuap than on Pai. It's obviously a dangerous magic, so why
do something as trivial as seal off memory?

Later on, Yakumo creates a magic circle. With it, he invokes the
spirit of Benares who introduces himself as the Wu of Kaiyan Wang.
He commands his listeners to pay tribute to Kaiyan Wang. There's no
danger here...Yakumo has invoked what is basically a recorded message.
With this, he introduces Pai to Benares.

Pai declares her intention to stay with Yakumo, and expresses her
true feelings for him. Yakumo blushes as Pai snuggles on his
remaining arm. For the moment, she is the happiest girl in the world.

That night, they prepare for the next day when they will start the last
leg of their journey to the Sanjiyan Holy Land. Elsewhere, Choukai
is finishing a phone call to someone...reporting on his progress. He
hangs up, and sets off with Ran-Pao-Pao and several other monsters...

In a hotel room somewhere, a dark figure puts the phone down. Benares
smiles to himself, then prepares to leave...

(Last updated: 07-Mar-94)

Note: this is based on the manga, NOT on any new anime OAV.

Continuing the story of a girl and her 'Wu'. We have arrived at the
caves to Konron and are coming up to the end of this series. The
closer I get, the more that I want to see the climax...

-----

*** The expeditions to the Sanjiyan Holy Land ***

  *** Expedition 1 - the good guys ***

Pai Ayanokouji - a young girl who, since a magazine picture was
published of her, has found that she is not the simple
Japanese schoolgirl that she thought she was. She knows now
that she's a victim of a magic called "Choang-Rin-Rin". Pai
       has now almost come home...

Sanjiyan - Pai's other half. A mysterious personality who wields
enormous power. Sanjiyan has shown that she can be extremely
vicious and tends to overuse her power. Pai can suppress this
personality by wearing Shiva's Glove...which also allows her to
use a mere fraction of Sanjiyan's power...

Yakumo Fujii - a young man who seems to know Pai from her earlier
life. Lately, his role has been reduced to being a strongman
and moral support for Pai. He is very worried now, since he's
deduced Benares' probable involvement with their quest...

Jake MacDonald - A treasure hunter from America. He is searching
for the fabled home of the Sanjiyan, but now that he's found
a Sanjiyan, he's continuing the quest because, despite his
better judgement, he's grown to care for Pai...

Naparuba - A monk who first encountered Pai as a nude girl under a
blanket. He has now become the guide to the entrance to Konron
since Teinzuin has been taken by Choukai.

  *** Expedition 2 - the bad guys ***

Choukai - Yet another searcher. He controls a variety of monsters,
and is willing to use them to stop the other searchers. He
also has magic powers in the form of handwritten charms. He
has a master of his own: Benares...

Hong-Nyang - A little red headed girl who befriends Pai and in turn,
Pai cares a great deal for her. As the monster Ran-Pao-Pao,
she is Choukai's main strongman and is completely loyal to her
       master...

  Various other monsters...

  *** Expedition 3 - the observer ***

Benares - Kaiyan Wang's 'Wu'. His goal is to free his banished
master, and seems to be heavily involved in events. He hasn't
been seen in any active fashion since the incident in Hong Kong
4 years ago (see "3x3 Eyes" OAV #4), but this will change...

  [Prologue]

Pai is coming back to the monastary. In her arms are supplies that
they need for the trip to Konron. Pai is so happy now that she has
an idiotic grin on her face and is almost whistling as she walks...

She spies MacDonald speaking at a public phone. She's about to say
'hi' when she notices his expression. Whatever MacDonald is talking
about, it's making him very unhappy...

  [Title: 3x3 Eyes Psuedo-OAV Part 9]

The group has arrived at the entrance to the cave. With Naparuba
leading the way, they enter. Pai notices that Yakumo is keeping his
distance from her and is avoiding looking at her as well. When she
finally catches his eye, he blushes. With a start, Pai remembers
  what she'd done last night...

Flashback: Pai is snuggling on a blushing Yakumo's arm...

Pai turns beet-red. To cover her embarrassment, she starts to flirt
outrageously with MacDonald. To her surprise, MacDonald ignores her
completely with a sad look on his face. Pai quickly grows sad and
wants to help, but doesn't know what to do...

Flashback: Last night, MacDonald is talking with Naparuba about his
dream to find a Sanjiyan, so he could help his dying fiancee.
He hoped that a Sanjiyan could confer the gift of immortality
	     and save her life...

Abruptly, MacDonald makes a decision to leave the group. He will be
going back to Los Angelas to be with his fiancee. The decision catches
Pai off guard...she'd grown to depend on his solid presence. Yakumo
protests as well, but MacDonald gets on their horse and disappears with
an admonition for Yakumo to take care of Pai...

With nothing else to do, the group proceeds inside of the cave. They
come to an underground river and follow it. This was the first
landmark, so this is a good sign. Nobody notices the dark shape in
the river which is following them...

Following the path, Naparuba suddenly stops Pai from touching the
rock wall. The area is laden with booby traps and there are many
triggers for the unwary. He and Yakumo proceed carefully along the
path, talking about MacDonald on the way. Pai is about to follow
when she hears the sound of rock sliding against rock. Freezing
motionless, Pai slowly glances back to see that she's leaning
against a half-inserted trigger. Meekly, she calls ahead to the
  two men for help...

At the village, an irate MacDonald demands transportation out of the
area to the airport. A clerk waves a bus schedule in his face and
tells him that won't be possible until the next day. MacDonald grabs
his wallet to resort to bribery when he drops a well worn and battered
healing charm. Looking at the charm, MacDonald slowly gets an idea...

The triggered trap causes a collapse of the cave. Added to this are
wood spears which shoot out from the walls. Yakumo saves Pai from
all of this, then has to deal with the monster emerging from the
river. The monster knocks Pai over a cliff onto a rock face. Yakumo
is kept busy fighting the monster, so the clinging Pai screams as her
grip slips off. Abruptly, her fall is stopped as MacDonald appears out
of nowhere to grab her arm and save her.

As Yakumo kills the monster, MacDonald says that he's changed his mind.
He is putting his faith in the healing charm that he's mailed to L.A.
Also, it happens that he knows what to do here. Pushing a hidden
panel, MacDonald drains the river and causes steps to fall out of the
cave wall. The way is clear to continue...

Somewhere ahead, Choukai is leading his group along a path. One of the
trailing monsters steps on a trigger. The cave collapse buries two of
the party. Slightly nervous, Choukai asks another monster where to go
next. The monster holds Teinzuin's brain and inserts a probe...then
indicates a new direction. Following the cave corridor to its end,
Choukai finds an untriggered trap. His one-eyed winged demon suddenly
flies in, and tells him where Pai's party is. Choukai decides to leave
  a surprise for her group...

Sometime later, Pai's party reaches this spot. Moving cautiously, Yakumo
makes an unpleasant discovery. Pai moves quickly forward to see what
Yakumo has found, and freezes in shock to find Hong-Nyang in a trap.
Before anyone can free her, another of Choukai's monsters attacks. Yakumo
knocks Pai out of the way and slices the monster's head in two.

Pai wants to free Hong-Nyang, but Yakumo opposes it. He remembers what
Ran-Pao-Pao did to Pai the last time and wants to leave Hong-Nyang in the
trap. Pai starts a heated argument with Yakumo and MacDonald opens the
trap while the argument goes on. Pai hugs the injured Hong-Nyang while
Yakumo glares at her. All of a sudden, the 'dead' monster moves and
produces a wrapped body. With a grotesque grin on the two halves of
its head, the monster unwraps it to reveal Teinzuin!

Choukai has come to an underground lava lake. On the other side of the
lake is the entrance to the Holy Land. There seems to be no way to get
across, so one of his monsters volunteers to fly across. While in flight,
the monster gets halfway across the lake before a tower of lava shoots
up and kills it immediately. Choukai looks and finds a hole shaped
like a key. This is a piece that he doesn't have...

Pai and company have been surrounded by most of Choukai's party. They're
here to stop them from proceeding. One of them threatens Pai with a
sword. She gives the confused Yakumo a 'significant' look, then shoves
Hong-Nyang into his arm. With a battle cry, Pai rushes the monster
holding the sword and throws a body block!

The monster is startled, and lets Pai take his sword away. Pai kills
that monster, then attacks the large monster holding Teinzuin. This
is no ordinary sword as it seems to generate a destructive wave when
swung. The ceiling collapses, burying the big monster and some
of the others as well. Yakumo saves Pai from being buried herself.

This monster still isn't out of it yet. Even with its head split in
two and most of its body buried, the arms still move to attack Pai.
A quick flash of movement, and Hong-Nyang attacks the huge hand to
defend Pai. It's no use as the hand moves to crush Hong-Nyang. Yakumo
saves Hong-Nyang by slicing the fingers off.

Unlike the others, MacDonald chooses a more "Indiana Jones" approach
and just shoots any attacking monsters... :-)

Pai's group moves to the edge of the lava lake. Yakumo and MacDonald
form a rear guard against the monsters, so only Naparuba (who is
carrying Teinzuin) and Pai arrive at the lava lake. Teinzuin stirs, and
they tend to him. He is worried that Pai has lost the key, but Pai tries
to reassure him by showing that she did still hold the key that he'd
given her. Upon getting the key back, Teinzuin knocks both Pai and
  Naparuba into the lava lake!

The observer has arrived at the entrance to Konron. Benares pauses
briefly, then strolls into the cave...

Clinging to the rock face, Pai is shocked to see "Teinzuin" joined by
his master: Choukai. She realizes that the real Teinzuin is actually
dead and she's given Choukai the key to the Sanjiyan Holy Land. Pai
begins to recite her spell: "BA RA SU..."

Yakumo is fighting a minotaur. He blocks a sword thrust in a move that
shatters his own blade. Feinting quickly, Yakumo touches the minotaur's
stomach and invokes "Tou Chao!". The spell explodes and Yakumo is
thrown back. When the smoke clears, the minotaur stands unharmed.
The defenseless Yakumo moves back as the minotaur rushes in again - then
its stomach explodes. Standing over the minotaur, Yakumo wonders at
the delayed reaction of his Ground Claw attack...then he notices another
observer here. Benares grins at the terrified Yakumo...

Choukai reminds Pai that they are standing at Konron. Already, the
energy from Shiva's Glove was causing the cave walls to collapse and
the other defenses to react. To save herself and Naparuba, Pai jerks
Shiva's Glove off to cancel her spell. Choukai calmly looks at the
clinging Pai, then orders one of his monsters to finish off the
meddling Sanjiyan. The monster blasts Pai, knocking her off the
cliff face. Pai falls screaming into the bubbling lava below...

Heh. I just LOVE cliffhangers...don't you?? :-)

-----

  [Prologue]

Yakumo is fighting a minotaur monster. His Ground Claw attack fails,
and the minotaur moves in for the kill. Suddenly the minotaur's gut
explodes and Yakumo is saved. Yakumo suddenly sees Benares, whom he
  hasn't faced in 4 years...

Pai has taken Shiva's Glove off to cancel her powers. This stops the
cavern from collapsing and saves both Naparuba and herself. Choukai
orders one of his monsters to blast her and the powerless Pai is
knocked off the cliff wall. Screaming, she falls toward the bubbling
lava lake below. Nobody can save her...

  [Title: 3x3 Eyes Psuedo-OAV Part 10]

Pai is falling down the cliff. It's so hot that her clothes have
started burning off of her. A voice tells her to let go of Shiva's
Glove (she is gripping it in her hand). Above, Choukai watches as
Pai tosses Shiva's Glove away. Suddenly, an energy pocket forms
and Pai falls on it...just before actually hitting the lava.

Before Choukai can react, Feh Oh brings Sanjiyan back. He brings
his staff up to defend as Sanjiyan attacks. The magical explosion
blows Choukai back to the wall. His other monsters attack Sanjiyan
out of desperation. With a terrible smile on her face, Sanjiyan
gleefully kills the remaining two monsters.

With her opponents defeated, Sanjiyan relaxes and turns back to her
friend Feh Oh. She doesn't notice Choukai coming behind her until he
slashes her back open. Sanjiyan collapses in pain. Feh Oh attacks Choukai,
but he counters with a charm that stuns Feh Oh. Sanjiyan is trying to
recover from the pain, but Choukai strikes her face with his staff.

As she watches, Choukai changes from his human form to his real demon
form. Snarling, Sanjiyan forms a powerful destructive spell and fires
it at the Choukai-monster. Choukai's belly opens up and Sanjiyan's
blast disappears into the void within...

Benares welcomes Yakumo to his domain. He and Pai have finally arrived
as expected. Yakumo counters with "Tou Chou", his Ground Claw attack.
Benares doesn't even twitch as he destroys Yakumo's attack. As Benares
disappears, he tells Yakumo that he'll be waiting...

The void within Choukai is hungry. It sucks in everything in front of it.
Sanjiyan fights the pull, but is drawn into the mouth of the void.
Desperately, Sanjiyan throws a kick at Choukai's head. The impact throws
Choukai off balance and both of them fall into the lava below...

Benares watches this impassively. After both are swallowed up by the
  lava, he disappears...

Yakumo and MacDonald have arrived. Naparuba tells them that it's too
late. Pai has fallen into the lava. Suddenly, Choukai leaps up from
the lake. Before Yakumo can do anything, the horribly burned Choukai
  collapses and dies.

As they mourn the missing Pai, Yakumo notices the top of Pai's staff
sticking out of Choukai's stomach. Grabbing it, Yakumo pulls hard and
Sanjiyan pops out of the void into Yakumo's arm. Thankfully, Yakumo
hugs her hard. Sanjiyan hugs back then, to Yakumo's surprise, she uses
her magic to retrieve Shiva's Glove and puts it back on her hand. Sanjiyan
voluntarily goes back to sleep and Pai smiles tiredly at Yakumo...

Naparuba will take Teinzuin back to be buried. He leaves the group after
giving Pai the great key. Yakumo has a running argument with Hong-Nyang
who will NOT give Yakumo his sealed arm back. Pai inserts the key into
the slot and the lava rises and cools to form a bridge. Mentally, Pai
tells Ken-Ken and Don-chan that she's here. The way to Konron is clear...

The other side of the bridge is a massive shrine. Inside are gigantic
statues depicting a Sanjiyan and other figures. Pai and Hong-Nyang
wander around while munching Pocky sticks. Hong-Nyang is still carrying
Yakumo's arm around like a trophy. There are lots of books here as well,
and Yakumo and MacDonald are going through them. This is ultimately a
pointless exercise, so Yakumo prepares the incense burner. He cuts his
wrist on a sword and blood drops on the burner. For all of them, the
world suddenly turns white as the burner explodes in light...

  The shrine is empty.

Pai slowly wakes up to find herself on a barren plain. Yakumo and
MacDonald are waking up nearby. In the distance is a massive temple with
the Sanjiyan emblem on it. They've made it to the Sanjiyan Holy Land!

Happily, Pai wanders down to find an area filled with hundreds of markers.
Trailing behind her, Yakumo and MacDonald watch as Pai curiously bends
down to clear the earth away from one of the markers. She exposes a
smooth rounded surface and excavates it. Pai is horrified to find that
she has dug up a skull. The skull has holes for a creature with 3 eyes.

Crying silently, Pai stands in the middle of the massive graveyard and
mourns for her race. Yakumo and MacDonald watch sadly and stay back to
give Pai some time alone. She will never again meet another Sanjiyan...

Two birds fly over Pai. Glancing up, she notices that these aren't
ordinary birds...they look like an old friend who she doesn't remember
(but Yakumo does)...Takuhi. Shiva's Glove begins glowing as well.
Pai follows the Takuhis over to a magical circle. Some magical energy
leaps between Shiva's Glove and the circle. As Pai and the two Takuhis
watch, a figure begins to form in the middle of the circle. Yakumo and
MacDonald join the audience as the figure becomes a little Sanjiyan girl
  who looks a little sad.

  Pai is looking at herself...

Little Pai introduces herself as Parvati IV, and apologizes to her
audience for not greeting them personally. Parvati tells a story of
a great Sanjiyan named Shiva whom she was going to marry. Something
happened and Shiva became obsessed with power and domination. He wanted
to rule over both the Sanjiyan and Human races. Appalled at his cruelty,
the Sanjiyans revolted and formed a great spell...with Parvati at their
head. With their combined power, they banished Shiva from this world
into another realm. The battle had a great cost...all were killed
except for Parvati, the future bride of Shiva...

Parvati ends her narrative with a plea for the visitors to leave the
Holy Land and never come back. Let Shiva sleep for eternity.

[Note: We also know Shiva by another name: 'Kaiyan Wang'...]

Yakumo and MacDonald have gone to the houses where the Sanjiyan lived.
For all of their power and abilities, they find that the Sanjiyan
lived a simple life. Crude pottery and implements show how the Sanjiyan
prepared and ate their food on the simple wood stove. If this was anywhere
else, this place would be a primitive farming community. There is no sign
of any magic that would remove Choang-Rin-Rin...

Yakumo is bothered by something that Parvati said. As part of her story,
she said that she wanted to become human since humans had the ability to
love someone so much that they were willing to sacrifice themselves for
that other person. Yakumo feels ashamed since he believes that he doesn't
have that noble strength. MacDonald thinks that Yakumo is underestimating
  himself...

Pai is sitting on the magic circle. Her quest seems to be over. The
Holy Land is dead and there's nobody who can remove Choang-Rin-Rin. She
has learned who she is, but there's nothing more she can do. Pai decides
that she wants to return to Tokyo and just be with Yakumo. She will be
happy that way. A query to Sanjiyan produces only silence...

A footstep sounds in front of Pai. Out of the rising mist, a dark figure
approaches. Benares stops in front of her and greets her as his servant,
Houasyou. Benares is happy that Houasyou has finally brought Sanjiyan back
to the Holy Land. Pai panics and pulls Shiva's Glove on. Benares
watches with amusement as Pai points Shiva's Glove at him. He dismisses
her protests that her name is PAI. Hong-Nyang attacks the man threatening
her friend, but Benares sweeps the attack aside with no effort...

MacDonald is feeling a little star struck with his knowing some figures
out of legend (a Wu and a Sanjiyan). He notices Yakumo start abruptly
and asks what happened. Yakumo felt like Pai was calling for help...

  The magic circle is empty.

The ruins of the Sanjiyan Temple. At the altar, Benares is preparing a
ritual for the awakening of his master. Hong-Nyang lies crumpled in pain to
the side. Floating above Benares is a sleeping Pai, wearing nothing except
Shiva's Glove. Hong-Nyang gathers herself for another attack, but Benares
blasts her. She falls off the edge of the altar to the floor below...
injuring herself terribly as she falls on top of the container holding
Yakumo's arm. The container smashes open and the seal is broken. Benares
  continues with his ritual...

At the magic circle, Yakumo and MacDonald are looking for the missing Pai
when Yakumo doubles over in pain. The seal has been broken and Yakumo's arm
is regenerating...but it also brings back all the pain of the amputation...

Pai slowly opens her eyes. She finds herself in a ghost-like form floating
over a harbor, wearing a blanket. The year is 1988. The place is Hong Kong.
This was the place of that final battle 4 years ago. As Pai watches, Benares
is preparing for the impending battle with Sanjiyan. His minions are
frightened of the Sanjiyan, but Benares has a plan...

He calls forth one of his stronger servants...Houasyou. A terrifying black
snake comes forward. Benares will use the snake's power to block the mind
of Sanjiyan. Invoking Choang-Rin-Rin, Benares turns Houasyou into a
rhombus! Above, the ghostly Pai watches with a growing sense of horror.
A ghostly Benares appears next to her and notes that his plan had two major
flaws. First, because of who Parvati IV *is*, she is the most powerful
of all the Sanjiyan Unkara. Second, he hadn't realized that Pai's mind
had already split into two...so Choang-Rin-Rin only blocked out the original
Pai's mind. Sanjiyan was still awake, but without memory...but the same
  applied to Houasyou...

Below them, the battle had begun. Benares only had enough time to apply
the rhombus to Sanjiyan's forehead before her blast disintegrated him. It
would take a whole week for Benares to regenerate. In the meantime, the
almost mindless Sanjiyan wandered the streets of Hong Kong...until she was
picked up and adopted by a visiting Japanese couple. Pai was in shock, but
she recognized the truth of Benares' words. She was not Pai.

  She NEVER was Pai.

In truth, she is an ugly black snake...now a rhombus on her...on PAI'S
forehead. Pai finds herself back in the temple in front of a great
sun shrine...Kaiyan Wang's prison. Benares tells her that she has two
choices...she can remain as she is and resume her role as his servant,
or she can break the spell and free Sanjiyan and the original Pai. She
cannot defeat Benares as neither she nor Sanjiyan are powerful enough:
Choang-Rin-Rin sealed off most of Sanjiyan's power. If she chooses the 2nd
option, she'll return to the form of the ugly snake...and lose Yakumo.

There is a shout outside, and Pai turns to find the LAST person that she
wants to see right now...Yakumo. Her heart is torn between the choices.
All she can whisper is "Yakumo-san"...

Benares smirks at the young Wu in front of him. Yakumo threatens
vengence if he has done ANYTHING to hurt Pai. To get rid of this nuisance,
Benares sends Kuan-Yaa (a light-dragon) at Yakumo. He counters with
Chin-Kuu and reflects Kuan-Yaa back at Benares. It hits on target and
Benares and a portion of the shrine disappears in the explosion.

As the smoke clears, Benares emerges unharmed. He betrays a little bit of
surprise...he didn't think that Yakumo has progressed beyond Tou Chao (his
ground claw attack). Benares invokes a greater magic (a giant spider) to
dispose of Yakumo. Yakumo forms Tou Chao to counter. Both combatants
hesitate when a voice yells "STOP!!!".

Pai is standing with Shiva's Glove pointed at the sun-shrine. She'll
destroy Kaiyan Wang if the Wu's don't stop fighting. To Yakumo's
consternation, Pai tries to make peace between himself and Benares. The
best thing would be to return to Japan and resume their lives. Yakumo
refuses to abandon the quest for the removal of Choang-Rin-Rin. An amused
Benares asks if Pai is going to tell her secret...especially as she poses
no threat to Kaiyan Wang with her current power. Yakumo is getting very
confused over where this conversation is going...

"Barasu Vidahi!". A blast of energy explodes from Shiva's Glove...and
goes around the force bubble protecting the sun shrine. Desperately, Pai
shifts direction and blasts Benares. With Benares out of the way, Pai
runs into Yakumo's arms and hugs him tightly. They come down the temple
steps and are joined by MacDonald and Hong-Nyang. At the base of the
temple, the group comes to a halt...an angry Benares is waiting for them.

Hong-Nyang hugs Pai briefly and tells her that she loves Pai. Turning,
she becomes Ran-Pao-Pao and attacks Benares. MacDonald asks Pai to take
care of his fiancee for him...and joins Ran-Pao-Pao. Aghast, Pai watches
her friends go to their certain doom. Yakumo holds Pai's hand and says
simply "I love you, Pai". He joins the attack. Benares has punched a
hole though Ran-Pao-Pao's heart and ripped MacDonald's head in half. He
takes Yakumo's charge head on and rips his body apart.

The demonic Benares laughs in triumph. Yakumo whispers for Pai to get
away. To his horror, Pai walks to Benares...and gets on her knees before
him. The triumphant Benares watches as Pai turns around and cradles what's
left of Yakumo's body. Pai tells Yakumo a little about her life and thanks
her grandparents, her friends and him. The memories of when she was human
is something that she'll treasure forever. Pai realizes that this love for
her family and friends was Parvati's sought-after sacred power. Pai ends
by bending down and kissing Yakumo...

Too late, Benares realizes that he has misjudged Pai. Leaping up, he forms
the giant monster spider to destroy her. Letting her blanket fall away,
Pai raises Shiva's Glove and recites her spell for the last time:
  "BA-RA-SU VI-DA-HI"...

The magical energy released blows away Benares and his spider. Pai is
crying as the third eye opens, and the rhombus detaches and falls away.
Carried upward by the shockwave, the rhombus reforms into a snake. Looking
down, the crying Houasyou can see the magic energy grow bigger and bigger
until it has consumed the temple. Houasyou disappears into the sky...

  [Epilogue 1]

Yakumo comes up to the magic circle where the little Parvati IV gave her
message. On the platform sits the present Parvati IV. She is fully awake
now, though Pai has yet to awaken. Sitting with her is Hong-Nyang and the
two Takuhis. She tells Yakumo to go back to Tokyo to wait for her. Until
Pai wakes up, Sanjiyan has decided to rest here...in her sacred place...

  [Epilogue 2]

Naparuba receives a phone call from MacDonald. He's in Los Angeles with
his recovering fiancee. While MacDonald's talking, his fiancee leans
over and starts kissing his ear. The celibate monk blushes at the noises
  coming over the phone... :-)

  [Epilogue 3]

A blond girl wakes up in the hospital. As her vision focuses, she sees
Ken-Ken and Don-chan come into view. A little confused, she sits up and
the word goes out that the girl in a coma has woken up! Apparently, this
girl had been in a coma ever since she was caught when a disco exploded.
Her friends and family are excited and happy that Pai has finally woken up!

Pai seems confused...wasn't she supposed to be a snake? There was some
vague memory of that, but she can't remember now. Curiously, she looks
at something in her hand. She tries to figure out what it is, then gives
up. Pai puts Shiva's Glove away for later...

Don-chan pulls out a bouquet and gives it to Pai. She says that a young
man called Yakumo told her to give it to Pai. Pai muses "Yakumo?".
Unnoticed by anyone, Feh Oh is hovering outside the window. Sanjiyan
has a contented smile on her face and wishes "Good Luck" to Houasyou and
her new life. Feh Oh and Sanjiyan vanish from view...

Sometime later, Pai has been released from the hospital. She and her
friends are on their way to school and Ken-Ken and Don-chan are teasing
her about this mystery man "Yakumo". Pai denies any knowledge of this
guy...but says that "Yakumo" is a nice sounding name. The girls continue
down the street. Nobody notices the man that they pass on their way. Yakumo
smiles affectionately at their retreating backs before continuing on...

                       3x3 Eyes Pseudo-OAV End Notes
                    ===================================

(Last updated: 21-Apr-94)

Well, that's the end of the story. I hope you liked it.

Here are a couple of points that came up as I was doing this series:

  - I've done quite a few synopsis and other informational postings
over my time on rec.arts.anime (the Pocket Guide being my crowning
achievement, I suppose :-)), but I've never seen such an overwhelming
     demand...almost a hunger...that I've seen for the P-OAVs. I guess
people like Pai and Yakumo... :-)

  - I promised that you'd see what happened to Pai after the events
in Hong Kong (OAV #4). Well...I lied. As has become obvious
by now, we never did see the REAL Pai thoughout the series.
Houasyou made a pretty good Pai though, didn't she?

  - The original Pai didn't care too much about how much or little clothing
that she wore. She had never learned that it was supposed to be
embarrassing. Pai Ayanokouji *was* embarrassed...and somehow, she
managed to have her clothes ripped off, or found herself in the nude
much more often than the original Pai ever did... :-)

  - I used the phrase "Shiva's Glove" throughout the series. That's
actually how I first came to know it, and I thought it worked
better than the more literal translation: "Shiva's Claw".

Someone asked *exactly* what Shiva's Glove did. When worn by a
Sanjiyan, it suppresses the second personality (the one who controls
the supernatural powers) so that the main personality can keep
control. It also allows the wearer to use some small portion of
     the Sanjiyan powers.

  - For those of you who have the manga and have commented that I missed
     such-and-such a scene or "this didn't happen here!".......well,
you caught me. In order to fit my narrative structure, I've deleted
some scenes (for length reasons), changed some scenes around or altered
some a little. In general, I tried to keep those changes to a minimum.

Think of it this way...I was describing an (nonexistant) OAV. In this
sense, I was adopting the manga to fit in an OAV. I really did keep
close to the manga most of the way. If nothing else, this exercise
has given me new respect for the professionals who adopt manga to anime
     for a living...

I hope I did a better job of it than Carl Macek would have... :-)

[BTW, he *does* hold the rights to this series...]

  - This ends the "Pai Ayanokouji" series. I am not planning to continue
beyond this point (it's lots of work! :-)), but here are some snippets
from future editions of the manga:

+ When Pai wakes up, she decides to stay in the Holy Land for Yakumo's
sake. If she doesn't return to Earth, Yakumo is under no obligation
to find a way for her to become human...she is willing to risk her
dream for his happiness. Sanjiyan doesn't like this...she has grown
to like the world of man...and she blames Yakumo for this decision.
A monster forces Pai back to Earth so she can stop it. Yakumo is
VERY happy to see Pai, but when Sanjiyan awakens.....

+ Han, a roving magician, comes to the offices of Yougekisha. He
brings an egg of Kuan-Yaa with him. He already knows Yakumo since
they met when Yakumo was searching for his missing Pai. For his
help, Yakumo promised to introduce him to a Japanese girl. Yakumo
keeps his promise...sort of...by introducing Han to Mama! Han
doesn't take this too well, but on the 'rebound' (:-)), he falls
	 in love with Pai...

+ Sanjiyan has gotten SOOOO disgusted with her Wu that she tries to
free his soul. To this end, Huang-san tries to help her by invoking
an ancient monster (and, of course, by helping her, maybe Huang-san
can become the new 'Wu'). This turns out to be a trap, of course,
with Benares holding onto Yakumo's soul and Sanjiyan begging for it...

+ Natsuko is now a student teacher at her old school. She comes
across a group of unruly girl students....and a strange notebook
computer. There seems to be some supernatural force associated
with that computer and it's up to Natsuko to stop it...

+ Pai and Yakumo return to Japan at some point to visit an old
friend. It's hoped that this friend can remember where Benares
is. Right now, she doesn't even remember who Yakumo is. Eventually,
Yakumo will go out on a date with this friend: Pai Ayanokouji...
